997tt at the track first day

i spent almost 5 hours on the track today with my new 997TT... i filled the tank 3 times!
nothing short of an amazing very capable car! the car has plenty of pwer the front end is firm and planted point it and go let the throttle do the rest. the suspension is a little soft even in the sport mode, but i am used to my GT3.

the power is smooth and ver predictable, it is a blast to push it enough to wag the tail out.

I was running 19" pilot sport cups with pagid RS 19s all the way around. the braking was very simular to the GT3 same pads up front the shocks made it a little looser at 150 mph than the GT3 but that was to be expected.

cars alignment was factory spec. would like to have had a min. of -1 to 1.5 degree upfront.
the All wheel drive was incredible pulled through turns firmly...

i wish second gear was a little taller, but the touque made up for it.

I only hope you all get the chance to put the car on the track and drive it like it was ment to be driven

Re: 997tt at the track first day

Any significant understeer? What pressure/temps were you running in the PSC's?

Re: 997tt at the track first day

    Congrats 930ma.

How many laps? how far? and how many gallons of fuel?

Re: 997tt at the track first day

no significant understeer whatsoever. the cuos really shuold run 36 hot on the rear but they were rolling over quite a bit so i bumped themto 40 hot seem to correct the problem.

temps were 200 plus or minus

dang i cant even think how many laps. i went through three tanks of fuel getting about 7 miles per gallon on the track little better than the gt3 not much though... well over 200 miles today

Re: 997tt at the track first day

god, I envy so much to those who have easy track access. please show some photos.

Re: 997tt at the track first day

The suspension on sport in the TT is softer to me then the setting on the Carrera S . Do you agree?
I did find it much much softer then in my Carrera Sport chassis.

Re: 997tt at the track first day

i picked mine up yesterday(saturday). it's the most unbelievable driving experience i've ever had. this car will not dissapoint you. i'm not a skilled track driver like most of you guys but i still find this car to be a great thrill for me. re the sound, it sounds great from the inside which is all that matters to me. congrats to all other new owners. i'll keep this car till an S is available

Re: 997tt at the track first day

tempting!!! i wish we had a track over here

Re: 997tt at the track first day

    Nice!!

Who would have thought that the heavy Turbo would do so well on the track for many many laps?

No doubt about its performance but the tires will not last under all that extra weight

    Nor brake pads/rotors...

Tell me about it. My PS2s and front rotors (heat cracks) lasted three months. I have just fitted Corsas, which allow later, harder braking and wear out faster....

But at least the car is low and the suspension is great for road and track. Got to lose some weight....

Great Report TIP or Manual? LSD?

Re: 997tt at the track first day

    manual of course..
tires MPSC bottom line is the car needs negitive camber. outside edges got worn inside first two inches of tread front and rear. this is the softest part on the MPSC. when tires were at 36 hot the were fine other than the rolling over.. the amount of power really lets you get the tail waggiling...!!!! if you want ..

I did NOT drive this car slow, i ran in the Instructor group, I am by no means the most acomplished driver but not a easy going one there were some very good drivers as well as racers there. the car out of the box held its own.

brakes were fine but is was running pagid Rs 19 coumpond and yes the rotors got small crack just as the GT3 , 997 , 951 and any othe car with holes in the rotors. i did bleed out fluid with ATE superblue on Sunday am ( not my choice of fluid by any means) Motul 600 or Castrol SFR is recomended...

Saturday and Sunday ran 9 more sessions car was great, not to heavy weith to HP ratio... what is weight of car?? THINK ABOUT A 05 M3??? weight ot HP ratio...

put 18" Yokohoma slicks on sunday afternoon on my old Gt3 rims i used 25mm spacer to make up offst difference rears lil to narrow front ofset lil off ... car stuck lil glue but front pull on AWD to much cause of offset or the tire were not lil taller in rear so i think it was confusing the computer some... usually rear on 997 1 inc taller than front ..will work that out by next weekends event...

    car is still pretty capeable...
