Re: AFTER the Rennteam Summer Party (Second Day)

If Walter Rohrl says the manual is 3 seconds faster than the Tip around the Ring, isn't that good enough?

It is good enough...for a pro driver. It would be interesting to learn if the LSD gives an advantage to non-professional drivers or if Tiptronic would favor such drivers even more. Walter Röhrl took part in the 997 Turbo development, so he knows how to drive Tip right, the 3 seconds time difference is surely valid. However, still wondering: what about the "average Joe" driver?!

Many professional race car drivers- and Mike can name the names - stated categorically that a non professional driver
in a 996TT would be faster with the Tip than a manual.

Yes in the hands of a Pro the manual will produce the best lap times, but a amateur will turn in better lap times in a Tip than a manual on a race track.

FYI several "name" drivers bought Tip 996TT's for street car use. Not because of any superiority of the tip over Manual but because for the street it is beyond just more than adequate.

If your only "sports car experience" is when you drive your TT around town, then the stick might be more romantic and fun for you. If you are a pro, the tip is all you need for the street and if you are a amateur driver, the Tip will be a big help on track occaisions. Amateur versus amateurm the onw with the tip will have the advantage - if all else is equal -talent,experience, tires, engine tune etc..

If it is pro versus pro on a track, yes they will want manuals with a 997TT. If its me I will take any help I can get.

    There!

Re: AFTER the Rennteam Summer Party (Second Day)

Although the Tip is more expensive in both the 996TT and the 997TT, it seems that at least in the west coast market in the US, that the manuel commands a higher resale value. Perhaps this will change with the 997TT because of the performance superiority of the Tip??

Then i don't understand, why you prefer the Ring...
The Ring is a track for specialist and not good for a comparison of different cars with different drivers with different skills and experiences.

If you would a comparison on the Ring, then read SportAuto and you get the infos you want.

For us non hardcore Ring enthusiasts a short track is better to compare our cars...

+++ I guess we will have to wait for that test.

By a 997 turbo you need ears? What do you expect to hear?

Either, but certainly not any of the other cars there, since they'd be behind the turbo.
