When the Gods turn away...

End of a perfect day. Drop off a friend on the way home - top down all the way - and leave my car for the garage guys to park it. 10 minutes later I get the call. Someone who shouldn't have been in my condo garage has taken most of the side off my new car - not even run in yet. There are fluids leaking from somewhere, the driver's door won't open, one wheel is damaged, the front and rear bumpers are hanging off, driver's door, front and rear fenders are crumpled...

Now I'm going to miss my car. I had a trip planned to drive from Chicago to Minneapolis next weekend, and so on...At least no one was hurt and I'm hoping most of the damage was panels and nothing structural.

Enjoy your Porsches guys and think of mine in the body shop for a few weeks.

Pierre, I am very sorry to hear that. I'm surprised that you don't seem more angry - you must be a calm and patient person. Good for you - life is too short.

I hope it is a speedy and thorough repair.

What happened to your 996 Turbo?

Having had my heart attack a while ago I have no intention of getting angry - it doesn't help - just sad that I will miss driving my car for several weeks.

You are a remarkable man LeChef. I'd like to think I could be half as calm as you under similar circumstances, but I'd be out of my $%(@#$%^ mind. I can only somewhat relate: after my divorce and after my ex rung me out financially and emotionally I never think about my "stuff" as I used to. Sometimes it is ours to enjoy, and sometimes it goes away.

Hmmm, garage guys park the car in a spot where someone else just happens to run into it? How's that happen? Is there a video of the incident? Hope you get it all straightened out.

All that matters is that you and the ones you love are healthy. Everything else is replaceable. I'm sure that the car will be look as though nothing ever happened.

I feel for you, such crazy things happen all the time to me.
Two times, somebody kicked my car's front/rear at a parking lot, each time the damage was in the thousands and the paint job was never 100% right from scratch.
Another time, somebody kicked my rear at a fuel station (he forgot he had the first gear popped in and started the engine, the car jumped into mine).

Good luck and try to forget what happened. Or if you can afford it, sell your car and get a new one.

After I had a heart attack and killed everyone....

Its one thing for me to damage the car, but if someone else did..I think I would have a fit, then when I finally came back to reality..I would calmly call my insurance..

You have a very noble attitude, I admire you man. Good things will be coming your way for being so positive and having such a gr8 attitude. Bottom line it's a piece of metal and will be fixed and thank God no one is hurt. However it sucks seeing such thing happening to your car. I am sorry and I wish you the very best.

What happened

Thanks for the condolences - you have to vent - but in truth it's a car and not a person who got hurt.

Explanation on what happened: there are a few owners in the building who self park rather than valet, and it costs them considerably more to do so (for obvious reasons when you read this). The valet guy was driving my car up the ramp and the daughter of one of the self parkers was driving down. The valet guy did not know she was in the garage, hence the big bang...

Building manager and I will get it resolved for sure, but I'm just anxious to get the repair process going and get the car back and some more top down driving before the summer ends.

Update ... the repair shop won't have my car ready today; as always, they found additional damaged parts after they took it apart and haven't received them yet. The earliest is Monday. I'm expecting more like Wednesday.

Sorry to hear this, I got rearended a month ago when I bought my car. I was just 50 miles from the dealer where I purchased it. I hope it gets repaired to like new condition!

Really sorry to hear about your car. I know that despite your calmness it really must hurt - but once you get it back looking like new you'll soon forget. Please don't take any photos of the damage or you'll always be reminded!!

I'd still like to see a video. I'm curious if the valet guy was doing a "Ferris Bueller?" Bummer at any rate.
