    First time post on the board, this close to buying a 997....

    Hello all -

    I went to the local Porsche dealer on Sunday night to look at their inventory and came across a 2005 Carrera Coupe. Seal Gray Metallic, Black Leather, Tip, Nav, Sport Chrono, + another 6k or so in options new, 7.5k miles w/ a new set of 19" Antera 343's 305/30/19 rear, 235/35/19 front. Guy came and traded the car in on Friday for a new Turbo. Got the dealer to a price of 66,500.00. Does this sound like a good price? Thinking of trading my wife's 2005 c6 that we have had for almost two years, in for the Porsche if I go for it. This will be her car and she does not like manuals, already asked She really loves the look and drive of this car according to her.


    Any comments appreciated. Looking forward to moving over to 911.

    Sounds like it could be meant to be...
    The more Porsche girl drivers the better...I say!!!
    The only bummer is the TIP, she's driving a mean car, it should be a crime not to be a manual , but I understand the preference thing.. I say go for it, and Go GIRL PORSCHE DRIVERS..I just wont drive anything else!! Goodluck, price sounds good.

    upgrade, why do you say that..I hope its a nice snooty type comment, but otherwise that C6 is quicker than the S, so it would be an upgrade in terms of status and much nicers fit and finish besides that if you are a sports car guy then its a down grade in terms of performance, but then again..i would also like to have the porsche, but nothing less than a GT3..

    I know I will be missing the torque on the C6, the car is a real blast to drive but being for my wife, it is not as important to her. I am trying my best to be a good boy and not interfere with her decision. Personally, I will be waiting to see what the 8 cylinder M3 looks like in a year or so.

    aahhh yes it is..on a track, on the drag and in real life..where r u living? Denial?

    I mean I love porsche for what they are, but man I would never think that the porsche is quikcer, the 997 turbo is also not as quick as the Z06, the only porsche that might turn out to be quicker would be the GT2 and not for too long, atleast until the blue devil is shown, then even the CGT would be trumped, but thats not y you buy a porsche, if you only want speed, the Vettes are far better, but if you want to pampered at the same time while giving up some performance then you get the porsche..

    1.Around the track C6 is faster. true
    2.0-60 C2S is quicker
    3. 997TT Tip is also quicker to 60 than the ZO6 (talk about denial)

    2. You are not, please show me where it is 0-60 is 4.1 and 0-60 is not for these cars, 0-100 and 0-100-0 is and in that C2S would gets its @$$ handed to it..

No it is not..I am not in denial, 0-60 has been tested as 3.5 secs in the Z06 as for the 997 TT i havent seen any tests which claimed it to be quicker than that and like I said 0-60 is not for performance cars of this magnitute, for the Z06 and Turbo category you ought to be doing 0-100 / 0-100-0 / 0-150 / 0-150-0 and 50-150 test along with track tests which will show that the vette is quicker in all the above categories..

    997 Turbo is almost a Z06 with a lot more feature but you pay a heafty price and if you can you should buy both..

    I agree with you, but thats not the only test i mentioned...see in denial you conviniently forgot the nurburgring smack down for the 997 Turbo and a porsche race car for public..the GT3..porsche should have put more power into these cars..as of now Z06 is driving better than either of the current top porsches..

    But god damit, I want a GT3 for track use, Z06 for everyday use and a Turbo or a 06 Gallardo for exotics use

    Seriously man if you belive this..all I can say is good for you, i know my facts and know which is quicker, i can show you when the turbo didnt achieve those times that the C2S seem to have...what would you say about that and a retard would have to be driving the vette with no sports car experience to pull a 4.5 sec time when most have easily pulled a 4.3 or better to 4.1 and a quater mile time in the lower 12s, but the 997S timing here was a little over the top for me...

    Maybe C5 and maybe C6 is this or that. Who cares. I owned a C5 and when I picked it up from the dealer the horn did not honk, the convertible top did not go all the way down and the lid stuck up abit, and the door seal ripped out every other day. So much for fit and finish GM. Sold it in 90 days. Big loss in $, but no loss in . The most important thing I like about the 997 is I LOVE the looks, LOVE the feel, and LOVE how I feel when I drive it. As for the used 2005 997, I think it is a great story. I think this is the wife's choice. I once went to buy a Lexus SC430 for myself, but I did not like the color. My wife thought it was a great color and told me to buy it, but also said I would never be happy in a SC430. I told my wife if she like the color so much she should buy it for herself to shut her up. She turned to the dealer and said she would buy it and she did! I did not get the car and she hardly lets me drive HER car. My point is the wife should buy what SHE wants.

    The wife has a E500 which I get to drive about twice a year - it's HER car. Which is conceptually fine with me, but it is a great car to drive and I miss it.
