    Lets Hear Some Opinions On This Color - Orient Red

    I have a hold deposit on it. I was ordering new and the dealer called and said he had an exceptional car. Never really considered it before but I think I found my car even though its used - has 12K miles and Porsche will extend the warrant to 100K miles.

    Orient red was a fabulous colour. A thousand pities that it is no longer available. And those elegant Carrera 18" wheels.

    If you were ordering a new car, I'd hesitate to recommend buying an "old" one instead. Even with low mileage and a great look, it's still the older technology as compared to a 987 (or am I missing something and the 986 in the pictures is not the one you're looking to buy?).

    I was ordering but its taking an eternity because of the color. I did paint to sample. The dealer knows I am open to used so thats why he called. Its an unusual color, not many around. I was looking for something different.

    I am a Porsche neophyte so even the last generation will be good for me .

    Ok, that changes things a bit.
    If budget is no problem, and all you have to "endure" is waiting to get the right color, I'd pick a brand new - or used - 987 instead.
    I understand you're new to Porsche, but the 987s is a step up from the 986s - the interior alone is in a different league.

    If a used 986s is what youre after - pick this red one!
    If you choose between a 986 and a 987 - wait and get the 987. No doubt.

    I personally really like that color, and my wife loves it, but in certain light, it looks pink, and may be a bit "girly man" of a color. Most people I've seen that have that color on their Pcar are women, unless it's combined with a black or gray interior. With that beige/pink combo, it looks rather feminine, but still very nice.

    What do you mean by "still very nice" - feminine looks always are nice
    No worry about the "girlie man" moniker - the Doc has approved the color and if we have one "girlie man" expert at Rennteam, it's the doc

    My first Boxster S was a previoiusly owned with low mileage. This gave me the opportunity to see what I really wanted in terms of options when I decided to upgrade. Either way you cannot go wrong plus Jeff wiil take care of you with service.

    Feminine ??? . I am shocked .

    Yesterday when I drove it I had people in cars waving at me. Is this normal with Porsche's?

    Even women at traffic lights were rolling down the window and saying "nice car". If women love it thats OK with me

    In person the color appears to be a candy color like you see on high end custom hot rods. I was not looking for a subdued color anyway - originally it was going to be speed yellow, guards red or cobalt blue. Than I found Riviera Blue...

    Orient red works for me though

    Beautiful colour, but why take a 2003 car when you're ordering a MY07 ??

    I could understan better if both were 986 models, but the 987 is improved in every aspect i can't see the appeal of the 986 in comparison (other than price !!)

    Orient Red looks a lot different than the pictures above IMHO. Orient Red does not have so much of an orange tint to it. It is much more of a candy apple red as noted. There is a nearly identical thread on the 996 board at Rennlist:

    If you were to paint-to-color, I would seriously consider Arena Red, but of course, I'm biased

    Thats the color though and it was not a special order color.

    Orient Red was not a special order color in 2001 to 2003 (or 2004). I didn't say it was. My only point is that if you are going paint-to-sample, there are a few metallic reds to consider.

    Like some others have said here, I think in these pictures it looks pink. The interior colour is also very garish. Having said that though, it's ultimately your choice.

    I'm in Europe though, where colour tastes seem a bit different.

    Haha! You asked for opinions (re-read your topic) and I gave you mine-I wasn't being sarcastic. Anyway, the orient red (the color of the car you posted) cars I've seen look incredibly faded after 2-3 years (which is why I wouldn't get the color). I think the car looks best in darker colors-if you want red you may consider carmon red-I think it's darker than orient.
