    Who or what is Renn?

And why is there all this association with Porsche? There is Rennteam, Rennsport, Rennlist, Renntech, etc.

Can someone post where this comes from, or a pointer to a good explanation?

I have read quite a bit of Porsche history, but must have spaced out if I read about this.

    Thanks.

Re: Who or what is Renn?

    Renn- is German for racing-/race-.

I wonder who came up with the "Renn"-idea first ? As it's a German word it's amazing that a multiple of (mostly English-speaking forums/websites) have incorporated "Renn" into their name

Probably makes them look cool in front of customers. "You know, our company's name... It's German!"

That's why I accepted my job here at Eier Consulting.
My CV now has lots of Eier on it

Re: Who or what is Renn?

LOL... I hope you know what "eier" means? An the slang translation? ... cojones... SO, a cv with lots of balls... I think I'd rather stay with Fokker... though I understand that that can look a bit strange too!

Just so long as you don't end up with Eier on your face.

Re: Who or what is Renn?

I hope there's not really a company called Eier Consulting!!

Reminds me of a visit of an industrial fair (architectural products) in Canton/China last year. Every second Chinese company had a German sounding name and claimed that their product has "German technology inside". The street-smart ones even had some certificates with the federal eagle on display to prove their claim. Of course the certificates just said that the company would like to register their brand in Germany or established an office in Germany
The strangest one was a lock company using exactly the corporate design of BMW (even the white/blue propeller emblem)

As for the Eier Consulting: somehow funny as scientists often are referred to as "Eggheads" even in German language (Eggs = Eier)

They must have lots of Eier to select a name, such as "Eier".

    PJ,

Perhaps because of the prevalent German heritage in the USA, etc? And of course, it does sound cool too!

I'm afraid you're pretty close to the truth.

The most funny thing is when US companies are using the german TÜV approval to show how good their products (for example tuning) is. The TÜV is mandatory here in Germany for streetlegal stuff, it is not necessarily a quality mark but a technical standard mark. Of course TÜV approved products are a good thing but this doesn't mean the car manufacturer agrees with these products, supports them or even doesn't void the warranty if you install them.
And even TÜV approved products can be crappy and cause problems, like I said: the TÜV only controls the technical aspects, not the quality.

Re: Who or what is Renn?

I always assumed it came from the "RS" RennSport...
