    Past 3000 km, what's considered as high RPMs

    Manual wise, I guess I can go full throttle and redline. However, is consistently rev-ING to 6000/7000 RPMs considered okay or should I just keep it between 4000-5000 rpm till >5000 km? It's very tempting cos the engine doesn't even start to breathe or open up until you hit 5500 rpms. I thought of giving it a bit of a run up some time but just ain't so sure. Don't want too much trouble down the line as this is my daily commuter.

    My Boxster lives in the upper RPM range (5000-7000) daily. And, it loves it. My car has been driven this way for three years and 30,000 miles with no adverse effects (that I'm aware of).

    The engine just seems at home living live life up high. Think about it. People use these cars all day at the track without proglems. I doubt even the most aggressive street driving could come close to mirror that environment.

    Matt but I only have 3000 km and I think officially, breakin should finish (to be on the safe side) around the 5000 km range. Then again yes the Autobahn in Germany I heard frequently have old ladies driving in the 200 km range and I tell ya...in HK, I couldn't remember the last time I drove above 110 km the highest speed limit hence I agree with you. 110 km is considered congested condition I bet at yours.

    As long as you are not exceeding redline 24/7 365 I don't think you have anything to worry about. The 987's hp/torque band peaks between 4,700 and 6,000 rpm so it shouldn't harm the engine constantly being in that range.

    Thanks AJ I'd imagine so. I believe Porsche engines are made to rev and they are designed for sports use and track use so they are right outta the box track ready so it shouldn't be a problem.

    If anything, I would worry about driving it at too SLOW a speed (lugging the engine in a high gear)...

    aj I worry about that... I constantly rev between 1500 - 2000 before I have to brake
