Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

Short summary (mentioned favourable colours) for the Doc:

    9x Seal (+ 1x Meteor)
    5x Atlas
    3x Slate
    2x Black
    2x Cobalt
    1x each: Basalt, Guards-Red, Carmon-Red, Green

Overwhelming majority for the grey tones - we are a boring bunch But the advantage is: we sorted out your colour prob within 24 hours after you started the thread Now that's efficiency

PS: I knew my post # 500 would be about colours

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

    Dr. Phil,
If you want something different, I'd go for Dark Olive Metallic. I saw a 911 at the Philadelphia car show and in real life the color is STUNNING! It looks like you could swim in the paint. The metallic just looks so deep. In different lights it changes color a bit. In low light, it looks black. In the bright sun, the green and metallic really stand out. Check it out in real life if you can. Pictures don't do it justice.
The Cocoa inteior would match very well also.

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

I agree the 'specials' such as slate and PARTICULARLY Olive look stunning but are expensive.

So (and I am CLEARLY unbiased here), basalt with black interior and Classics on the new 295 bhp Cayman beater is, for me a no brainer. I would not change one thing on my basalt 2.7.

    Enjoy

    JZ

    agreed!

    Quote:
Black: Beautiful when clean, but you cant see the lines of the car and its hot as hell in the summer.

    100% agreed!

    Quote:
Red: Different and stunning...but the red taillights looks silly on a red background.

i personally like "red taillights meet red paint". red is a good choice for any Porsche IMO. and i'd combine it with black rims, like RC's legendary 996 TT.

    Quote:
Yellow: WOW! Didnt think speedgelb (speed yellow) would look that good, but it does - especially with silver/chrome trimming and rims etc.

agreed, yellow is nice for the CGT, but not on a 987 for daily usage.

    Quote:
Dark Blue: Not my color. Light blue (917 gulf style): Too fresh - would probably grow tired of it.

well, MY choice probably would be dark blue (night blue?) with natural grey leather. but i wouldn't call my choice thrilling

    Quote:
Atlas grey: Perhaps. A bit "safe" and conservative, but beautiful...perhaps with a tan interior?

elegant, without doubt. but IMO there are currently more dark grey cars driving around then silver cars. would bore you pretty soon either probably.

    Quote:
White: Saw one with cocoa interior, and while different and very "sun-shiny" it s also a bit too tropical and hip-hop-pornstar-ish...

    yes, and much too (con)temporary

    Quote:
    Orange and green: No chance.

    bummer!

    Quote:
Purple: Perhaps a deep purple could be stunning, but that would have to be a BTO-paintjob, and I dont feel like waiting an extra 6 mths.

    well...

    This one.

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

You might want to check out the Cobalt Blue which is a new addition to the standard color selction for MY07.

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

    My 2 cents..

Speed Yellow is a stunning colour, in bright sunlight and when its clean - in dull winter light and when dirty it looks awful

White - maybe making a bit of a comeback, disliked in EU for years because of resale but a few more aound today, maybe not suited to Danish winter road dirt tho ??

Red - agree it does nothing for the taillight design

Seal - never shows the dirt, but you'll never get a really deep reflection in it

Basalt - personally don't like the brown tinge in bright sunlight, and always looks second rate when parked next to a solid black car

Atlas - yeehaaaa - i luv mine, looks almost black in winter, and blue tinge in brighter lighting of summer. It hardly ever looks 'grey'. Hides dirt so much better than my previous solid black 986. Get a good shine/reflection too..

IF you go new, then cobalt is a good bet especially as it'll be much cheaper option on MY07 (maybe!)

Olive - wow, beautiful on the Cayman, still think its silly money to pay for paintwork tho.

Have to agree with Ente too that Carmon Red is a very understated colour and looks beautiful in sunlight, and not too flat in poorer lighting either.

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

If you like the sand interior (full leather) I think either Midnight Blue or Atlas are fantatstic colors. I've got MB/sand and never tire of it. I've never seen a Cobalt with sand car but it could be good. Cobalt becomes a standard color in MY07? I wonder if there is any chance for Slate becoming cheaper! That would round out my top 3 with sand full leather, (Midnight Blue, Atlas, Slate).

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

    OMFG! You guys are amazing!
Thank you so much for your input!
    Now I'm even more confused

Jeck: Thanks a buch for your input! And yes, it is both a helluvalot of fun and frustrating at the same time!
Ur ride looks stunning, especially with those painted seat shells! I think my probleem is that I have seen SO many Boxeys in here that are grey in some form...and even tho a P is a rare sight in Denmark, I want something different than the "usual" colors.
Trouble is I like the classic P colors and know that a conservative color is easier to resell. And on the other hand I wanna buy a car that YOURS TRULY finds cool, rather than considering resale already.

    I'm leaning towards:
    1) Yellow with silver/chrome mirrors, intakes and rims, and black leather
    2) Guards red/indish rot with tan or black interior, chrome trim
    3) Basalt or Atlas with tan leather or grey leather

And I want either the original 19" Carrera rims or a set of Speedart 19-20" chromes. They look amazing...and blingbling

Matt the car nut: Great color for that 986 of yours! , and I like the cobalt blue. However I wouldnt pick it for my new car

WAY: Thanks. Meteor grey...u have a pic of that which shows the color in a realistic way?

Paralizer: Atlas is stunning. I am considering that seriously. However I am afraid that it will disguise the lines of the car and make an already small/low car look even smaller...or am I mistaken? (Im not judging by ur pics, since I know that the car looks diff in real life).

Eslai: Yup, cocoa is very nice...I just need the right exterior color for it.

Ptcja: I hear you, and you are very right. I just cant see myself in another silver car right now. My second car is also silver, and even my girlie begs me to get another color! LOL! Black with terracotta could work. I found one on mobile.de. Check it out at the bottom of this post.

TEMM: Black and seal are cool as hell...or should I say KEMPEFINT!
Like I said: Black is cool, classy and beautiful but a nightmare to keep clean and the lines of the car are hard to spot. The jury is still out on this one.
    Thx for the images!!!

GR: Green can be awesome. To me its a Jaguar color. Not a P color.

Ente: Carmon red; Never saw one IRL..so I cant comment on that. If you have a better picture (looks a bit low res) I will definately consider it, as red is among my favs.

Amir Sarmad: White interior or exterior is probably cool for a sunny place....however I live in rainy, windy and chilly Denmark!!! ARGH!

Andy-e: Yup, seal works...but trouble is there are SO many grey cars out there. Not just P's but in general. But I must say the Boxey looks cool in seal...Oh, what to do, what to do :?

Tincanman99: OK, dude....I think you just sold me a yellow Boxey!
That car is so friggin awesome and the lines on it simply amazing....my only reservation is the grime/dirt issue and the fact that it may look like a plasticky toy car IRL. But, dang! Yellow is absolutely among my top 3 choices...if not THE top choice right now. Thanks for the pic! U have a larger one?

Anyone have picture of a DIRTY yellow Boxey?
Wanna see how crappy it looks after 3-4 days on the road.

01Box06Z06 and JZ: U guys have a pic of that olive thingy?
JZ: Basalt rocks! But my reservation is still the detaling thing and lack of clear lines.

ZZboba: Thx for ur input! Carmon could work...but I need a real life pic. Got one?

Percymon: Good point on the tinge of the diff grey variations. Thx
Hard to see the shine/tint/color etc on these shots....I prolly need to find a dealer with a huge palette of diff colored cars.

    Dr. J: Check this pic:

    Doc
In the sunlight I see the lines fine, and the subtle hint of blue really makes the car "pop' IMHO. On overcast/rainy days its rather non-descript and I suppose then the lines aren't as pronounced in those conditions. If your looking for maximun visibility of the lines than Artic or GT silver is the way to go. I'm currently in a AS loaner and the lines are quite defined. But overall I don't think it has the "stunning" factor that AG does. I really do get people coming up to me all the time in my AG. Been a big surprise. However wouldn't it be nice if all of life's decisions were like this.
Oh and what the hell...here is another Atlas pic.

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

Check the rims on this baby:

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

Paralizer, that thing looks blue!? Is it a blueish tone or simply the dark paintjob reflecting the sky?
And yes...all life's decisions should be like this!
Guess Ill have to get one in each color....

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

Do Atlas!! I saw it again today and was drooooling.

However, here's a picture of my dirty Seal Grey. I hadn't washed it for a week:

If Atlas can hold up anything like that, then it's a no-brainer in my opinion. Get it with the silver mirror arms for extra hotness!

Oh and i talked to my dealer today about Meteor Grey. He says that it's very similar to Seal Grey, but has larger metallic flecks in it. He says it shines more like a Basalt Black car does, if you know what I mean. Didn't have any samples to show me though.

    Doc
I think there is some "reflection" factor in that one. The pic was taken on a bright sunny day, no clouds, on the edge of SF bay. The blue in Atlas is a subtle undertone in direct sun. The best thing to do in see it in person. The pics don't fully capture AG.
And hey...isn't it a bit late in your part of the world?
Oh and yet another AG pic, with full leather.

Seal grey with cocoa. Porsche-jeck's very classy baby.

YES, indeed! Also check out Freak 2's stunning baby: GT Silver w/ Cocoa interior.

Any of the Greys would definitely be very beautiful, classy , sporty... I just absolutely LOVE the Boxster in Grey or Silver.

Carmon Red w/ Stone Grey top and Black/ Grey interior would be a very strong consideration too. Good luck Dr. Phil!

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

Lasse, get a 987 in Special Order Black and White color.

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

Here's a Carmon Red on for you Dr Phil.

    I think this is '05Boxster's

Re: Getting a new 987s...but which color? Need input!

Carmon red looks great in the sunshine. Don't understand why SWMBO doesn't like it.

    More Speed Yellow

I dont have a larger picture unfortunately but I do have a ton of speed yellow pics. I will post them. I know people kind of freak when I tell them I like the yellow. People cannot beleive I like a yellow car Yep.

This is a high performance sports car and I dont want it to blend in with all the other SUVs on the road. My top 3 colors are speed yellow, guards red and cobalt blue.

    Re: More Speed Yellow

"Trying a bit too hard"-ish, maybe?

    SWMBO MBO!
If you ever find yourself questioning the choices of SWMBO just remember that your measely opinion is of no interest compared to hers.

I agree with you almost all the way.
    My reservations are still:
    * How does it look in everyday/not-just-washed condition?
    * Is the color banana or greenish/lemonish yellow?
If it's the same as the GT3 it's more banana and redish yellow. I have also seen a yellow color that looks more creamy than green. Very beautiful indeed.
    * Will it look like a souped up toy car?

IMO the Boxster looks a lot better than the GT3 in yellow because the black top and chrome/aluminum trimmings make both the black and yellow pop.

Thanks for the pics! Keep'em coming!

    Re: More Speed Yellow

    Dr Phil,

If you go to the UK approved used cars there are over 180 Boxsters (986 and 987) with most colours represented, even a couple of unusual ones:

    Re: More Speed Yellow

    Dr. Phil,
Here's a couple pics that I found. This color is extremely rare! I searched about 1000 ads for 2006 Porsches and essentially found three cars that were Dark Olive Metallic. Most of the cars are either black, silver or grey.
As I said, photos don't do the color justice. It looks black in most photos. The rear view of the Cayenne looks to have the green tint to it, but it doesn't really show you the deepness to the paint. Very different color, but not one that would hurt your resale. It does look black in dark light, but really nice in the bright sunshine.

    Re: More Speed Yellow

    Here's the Cayenne

    Re: More Speed Yellow

Speaking of yellow being potentially lethal.
    Yikes!

I see what you mean, and I have seen that color on an Audi some years back.
Looks stunning, same as deep plum which has the same effect of looking black, but changing color in the light.
    Its probably BTO, right?
    So a +6 mths wait...

It's not a paint to order, just special colour (still commanding a premium of course, but shouldn't negatively affect delivery time).
I agree with 01Box06Z06 about how the colour "comes to life" in the flesh.
I have a pic of an olive green/cocoa 987 S in the sunlight (looks really nice) - If you give me your email address via PN I can send it to you (not able to upload it here - my tech skills are restricted to cars )

    Speed Yellow Inside A Dealership

I have seen them on the road, dirty they just become subdued like red does.
