F's strategy is simple; always make sure demand far outweighs supply and at the same time keep a perception of low production numbers.

Given F struggled to sell ?250 Enzos into the deep-money EU mkt, I guess our pals in London/MC/Germany aren't all that impressed by F's air of "exclusivity"....perhaps the "slower" kids in the US will figure out the illusions in due course....

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

Now I understand why there are so many Enzos here in JPN. All the unwanted leftovers from EU!

    Re: 2005 production : 5399 cars !!!

Let's see the good part of it, Ferrari is making the best cars in the world.

Demand is so strong that production MUST increase.

Now, I think that an annual production of 10.000 cars won't be too much in term of exclusivity, but only if quality remains.

Premiums are not for US only, an F430 in France is still 5 % over list price at least. An F430 spider 10 % over list.

Since my first 1990 348 a lot of Ferraris have been produced (even since I bought my 360 spider), I never see one in the street...

I see the French aren't much different from their american enemies . I would disagree about Ferraris being the best cars in the world, since I believe Porsche comes closer to that title, when considering sports car manufacturers. Also, you can get the Coupé and the Spider at MSRP where I live.

    Andrej,

I'm curious, have you ever driven a Porsche and Ferrari? How can you be so sure Porsche are the best.

Also, how many Ferrari dealerships are in Poland?

svtrader (until I know your name), I have driven the 360 and much of the 996 range of Porsches and IMO the Turbo is better, compared to the 360. I would take the 360 over the 996 Carrera, but not the GT3. One of the reasons which immediately tips the scales to Porsche's advantage is the safety. The other reasons you have heard me state many times, so I won't bother reiterating them. Preference is a matter of a specific person, but safety is absolute. A car with a lacking safety record can't be considered the best car, no matter how well it performs (and Ferraris do perform - the 430 is almost as fast as the 997TT, after two years still).
I will just hint at you that my name is Andrej (spelt André) and not Andrzej, which immediately excludes Poland from your list . I'm much nearer Italy than you would like to think.

Agree ....have owned and driven various iterations of 360/430 and 996TTS/997S...IMO, active/passive safety is a fundamental and rate-limiting aspect of how far any risk/reward-sensitive driver would explore any car's performance envelope

F has come a long way in past 5 yrs w/dynamically outstanding cars that are as reliable as any P , but suffer from primitive and dubious safety systems ....perhaps when F incrs produc vols to 10K+ cars/yr they'll have R&D resources to catch up to P in terms of safety......and, similarly, P has a challenge to develop a PDK box that beats the alleged speed/smoothness/reliability of 599 box (or whatever F's state-of-art box is whenever P finally releases PDK)....

But I prefer a fast 5-speed MB-built Tip w/P software in a high-torque@2K RPM, unquestionably safe 997TT over the world's fastest tranny in any car w/dubious safety engineering/systems, but w/a leather-bound fire extinguisher w/one's choice of stitching color/thickness.....

Yeah, very interesting when one considers London mkt is prob near-size of SF/NYC for Enzo/F 12/65-like cars, w/all the hedgies commuting around W End in $200K+ cars....and MC is prob the Euro version of LA: lots of flash, not all that much cash/real demand for new (not used) $200K+ cars

And any unsold, new Enzos in any odd, minor EU mkt (if truly rare and desired in EU/London) would be quickly scooped up by arbitrage-minded London hedgies or German industrialists...not sitting unsold, gathering dust in mkts like France, which are soooo far from Lond/MC

Globalization clearly hasn't yet created a common brand image/value for even F's most exclusive, modern, every-4-5 yr-issued-product in SF/NYC/LA vs London/MC/Germany.....

Ferrari used to promise no more than 4,000 cars/yr. Nick, are you getting worried?

As far as I heard from a pretty good source, Ferrari will build as many F430 as they can sell. Up to 5000 units per year shouldn't be a problem for the factory capacity.
Still 1000 less than the numbers Porsche plans for the new 997 Turbo but as you can see, the F430 isn't really that limited production car Ferrari wants people to believe in.
It may not affect new car sales right now (demand in the US still very high, in Europe you can get a new car pretty fast, even at once from one or two dealers) but it surely will have an impact on used car sales in a couple of years.

But still: whoever buys a F430 or a 997 Turbo shouldn't really worry too much about resale value. These toys are meant to be driven, not to be sold.

Good residual is a nice little bonus though

We'd best move to the U.K. One advantage of limited supply is wonderful residuals (relative to the U.S. at least).
