I can't wait till we see a Ferrari 4x4 for those moms taking the Versace-clad kids to school, a Ferrari minivan taking Armani-suited execs to an IT conference and a Ferrari hybrid hatchback for those shopping trips down Rodeo Drive...

Grant only 1000 430's per year into the US. Production ends in 2008. The number you are using are world wide sales.

Ferrari has chosen the trinkets for the new and many rich route.

Maybe you knew that allready but Ferrari Spa made 5399 cars in 2005.
That's a new record for the company.
That's 5399 cars and a kajillion branded gizmos
It will be interesting to have the figures.
I suppose at least 80 % of F430.
Cheers,
Gregory

1000 is too many Nick.
Already I have seen three F430's on the same street.
One parked, one trying to find a parking space and one going by. Two were Checquer cab Yellow, one was Silver.
It reminded me of the Harley cult.

There is only a premium here in the US. And that is just a manipulation and not really from true market forces.
Ferrari is going for a fall, you heard it here first.
All market bubbles burst!

Yes, I know the number is total production, but I think Ferrari is being tempted to sell more cars. They used to say that 4,000 cars was an absolute ceiling (just a few years ago)...

The "problem" of all luxury sportscar manufacturers is the increasing demand for their products in countries like China or the former Soviet Union.
So a firm like Ferrari has two possibilities:
Stay with their low production numbers and let these sales go or increase their production by a still manageable number and participate in the new market.
Ferrari has obviously chosen the latter and IMO that was the right dicision.

James what are you smoking? 1000 cars is not a lot of cars. The fact that there is a substantial premium for a 430 is testimony to its exclusivity and the brand marque. I agree with Grant that though the Lambo/Gallardo are terrific cars and in very limited production, nevertheless none to my knowledge sell over MSRP. The Gallardo if anything had disappointing sales.
The 997TT is a terrific car but within a year they will be discounted if not sooner. When dealers are offering to sell new CGT's for $75,000 off MSRP, Boxster $8-9000 off MSRP and 997C4 Cabs for $10,000 off MSRP you KNOW THAT THE BRAND HAS BEEN TARNISHED.
I saw this coming but people belittled me. Why should anyone buy Porsche at MSRP?

5300 cars is not a lot if you consider the Chinese, Indian, Russian & Australian markets Ferrari is going into.

So is Porsche. And Ferrari is desperate to substantially increase production. They aren't limiting production on purpose, they just can't produce more. I wonder how the snobist crowd will view Ferrari once it can manufacture 20.000 cars annually.
