What is the difference between the 2006 and earlier keys? I looked at what I thought was a 2006 owners manual at Renntech.org and the key shown looks just like the one I have for my 2005 CTT. I thought I had heard that the 2006 keys will open the doors from further away, but that hasn't been a problem with my 2005 keys.

I just noticed the difference between the 2006 and earlier keys. I wasn't aware that the 2006 has a "open" and a "close" button rather than just one button. I guess it never bothered me since I was used to doing it that way. My 2005 997S also only has one button.

According to the service manager at my dealer, the answer is, unfortunately, no. If anyone can document differently, I would order one tomorrow. The one-button version is a near-daily frustration.

Forgot to mention: it works mostly on US cars. For cars with other country programming, the alarm system needs to be re-programmed (PiWiS). I have a very good experience with the US/Netherlands settings.

In the USA version you turn on the ignition, go to the menu on the for "comfort" settings from the rocker switch on the stalk on the right side of your steering wheel column. Next go to "door opening", next "signal" and pick either "turn signal", "horn" or both.
