Sorry if this is a repost.

I'm new the forum and was looking for exactly this information. I have an 02 Targa (probably one of ten sold in the US!!) and have a deposit on a 997 Targa. Does anyone know if the November introduction date has been confirmed or if this is a Euro intro date with the US to follow?

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

It's a european date. Not official confirmed with a press release, but confirmed.

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Many years ago the biggest buyers of the Targa were the Germans. It's the weather factor. For the bunch of us in SoCal the weather isn't a factor so we can do completely to the cabriolet. I welcome the addition of the Targa to the lineup. It's a very neat design and more open for those in less than optimal climates.

Many years ago the targa was a targa. Since the 993 it's nothing more than a 911 with a panorama sunroof and strange C-pillars IMO.

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Yes, but it was ugly, and it leaked wather, hence the name "porsche designed bathtub" The 993 and 996 targa's were beautiful, and did not leak... now, which would you prefer? I think nobody would have a problem with the modern targa's if they would not bear the name Targa, but a new name...

I'm aware that the targa is based on the convertible, but from my (non-engineering) point of view it should be some option like with other cars (e.g. merc SL) -- just tick "panorama sunroof" and pay some extra 3000-4000k. Only PAG manages it to make it a "new model" and make the customers pay such a premium.

Regarding the look: Personally i like the old targas very much. If i'd buy a youngtimer 911 from the 70's or 80's, it sure would be a targa.

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

I agree, thats what a Targa should look like

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

    The C-pillars look hideous.

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

    I have a 996 Targa and can't wait to own a 997 Targa.

Today's Targa is a great concept for those of us in northern climates. It provides the rigidity of a coupe and most of the openess of a cab (even with the glass roof closed, the openess of the cockpit is unmatched by any other 911 model). And then there's the convenience of the rear hatch.

So is it just the name that bothers people? So it has a big sunroof rather than a T-roof. It's like people who say that they disagree with gay marriage, but civil unions? - well they're OK (no political commentary meant here - I just come from a very blue state!).

None of the models is for everyone, but for some of us, the Targa is the perfect 911. Maybe it would be better if Porsche just called it the "Carrera Civil Union"!!

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

It would be great to see the wrap around glass from the older Targas and the "targa top"

    Well...

That would be the best Porsche ever

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Last week I went for a factory tour.
The guide did everything to avoid us seeing the targa. Worthless effort because we saw one in the street leaving the factory. Looked nice in yellow, but I still prefer the older targa's.

Further lots of new turbos. You can find all my pics here :

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

LOL, How often do you go to the factory tour Rufie?
BTW, did you take your monster to spa this year? I still remember the three of us at that cozy terrace near spa a couple of years ago... good memories!

Hey Joost, long time no see. It's time we meet again...
Nope, my 968 was in garage at the time of Spa.

Later this month I'm going to the Leipzig factory, because I have won a prize via the Leipzig website : Discover Porsche in Leipzig, for 2 persons. I'm 1 of the 10 winners. I am feeling so happy. It consists of a tour in the factory, museum, customer service, a lunch and then a ride in a Porsche on the circuit and then offroad with a Cayenne.
I can't wait for that day. I'll make the trip with the 968.

    Cya,
    Rufie

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

No reaction for the targa pics ?
Old news ? No one really waiting for the new targa ?

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

hehe, you finally had a scoop; the first clear pics of uncamoed 997 targa, and then nobody reacts! Maybe because it looks just like everybody expected! But hey Rufie, nice pics!
    -Joost-

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Thanks for the pics Rufie, I too prefer the old targas.

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

I really really like targa's and this new 997 looks just awesome!! And finally a widebody targa, can't wait to seee..

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Thanks for the pictures. It might well be a first.

I'm still unsure about that chrome lip. I guess I'll have to wait until I see one myself in Cobalt and in Slate Grey (my top picks) before I order it.
I'm planning to get mine around late January. It's been a long wait.

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Great pics Rufie. This appears to be a US model (yellow side markers, US-sized license plate surround). Can't wait to get one!!

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Judging by the tail pipes, it looks like a T4, ie. non-S.

It looks great as a wide body. Look at all that glorious sunlight coming into the cabin!. I still don't like the chrome though . . .

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Raffie, thank you for the pictures! I didn't check the thread earlier because I thought it was a discussion on old vs. new.

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

agree with silver bullet - don't like the chrome bits!
the rear 3/4 view is nice tho.
    cheers for the pic!

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Great pics Rufie - I visited the factory about 4 weeks ago and saw the red and yellow GT3's parked in the same place. Lucky you were not caught with your camera inside the factory!

    Re: 997 Targa NEWS

Any idea what would be the price of new Targa in the UK? Perhaps Pounds2000.00 below Cab!
