    Re: Carrera 2.7

    Gnil:
    Leawood911:

My first 911 was a 77 with a 2.7. They are not the same motor as the RS. Unless you have the MFI RS motor any run of the mill 2.7 is not the same. Even the 1974.

The car that mechanic  has , is a 1974 Carrera 2.7 and it has the same engine as on the RS .  Only difference is the max HP on the RS is at a lower range ( 5100 rpm )

     2687 cm3 , 210 HP at 6300 rpm , 255Nm at 5100 rpm

They produced 2277 cars . From 1975 they added extra insulation to the inside and the engine bay .

Do not confuse it with the 911 2.7  ( not carrera )  that had 165 HP and was  '' mass'' produced from 1974 to 1977  and has only 165 HP , 235 Nm,

Sorry , there is a mistake in what I wrote as my info about the RS from a specialized mag  was wrong  ( I thought it looked strange .... ) . The 210 HP from the RS are also at 6300 rpm , exactly like on the Carrera 2.7 . It is the exact same engine !

    m4ever:

Gnil if you have the opportunity to do it, do it. It is a marvellous experience.  Besides the  2.7 Carrera with the 911/83 engine is the last series production application of the mechanical fuel injection. This 911 will always represent a milestone in Porsche history .

With regards to the drawbacks, in my personal opinion  it is the driver`s effort. Those cars require permanent concentration as there are no safety nets; braking takes longer, the lift off oversteer is always a menace and you always really need to drive the car whether at 60 km/h or 180 km/h. On the wet you need to pay even more attention. Said that , this involvement, creates also amazing fun even at legal speeds . Yes safety is an issue as it is with any vintage car .  Furthemore in your country you have the perfect setting to enjoy a vintage 911 .

I réalisé that that engine is very special Smiley The mechanic , who works on many 911, used to prepare lots of  993 Cup for racing , he is a real '' mechanical guru '' in the 911 community , told me this is his favorite engine mainly because of the mechanical fuel injection .

Price will be very steep , we all know how the market went in the last years . Too bad, as 10 years ago, that car was forgotten . There was not much interest in the Carrera 2.7 and prices were around 30k euro .  But it could still be a good investment . ( not that I do it for that reason, but I would hate the loose money on it )

I will have a deeper look into it . I am pretty excited about the whole project .

Beautiful indeed .  I do not need to know the asking price ..... too high for me  and I will not go for the RS . The Carrera is nearly as efficient for 1/4th of the price

    Re: Carrera 2.7

Yeah, the Euro Carrera 2.7 (74-77) is a great car with the 210hp 911/83 MFI motor.  The 74 Carrera in the US was not good (CIS injection and thermal reactor emissions equipment sucked in comparison).

vintage cars are fun to drive and own.

yes, surely the safety issue does exist....we are used to ABS and electronic nannies.

if you drive them with having that in mind they are pure joy....you actually feel that you are driving versus being driven around indecision

My first car did not have ABS , nor power steering . It was not a problem at the time . Why should it be now, unless I got too out of shape ..... which  it is not Smiley  I want some of that feeling back Smiley

If someone is interested in knowing more about this model, here is a link :

    http://blog.carreramfi.com/2015/07/1974-carrera-rm-monterey.html

The car had 3 back lid options .

Either nothing at the back ( my favorite )  .  On the 1974 model you could have the duck tail option . Then in 1975 that option changed for the wale wing .   See bellow the different options .

The Carrera sticker on the side was also an option .

The car I could get has the duck tail option . I did not see it yet .

@Gnil : this is (see link) by far the best book written on the 911 2.7 Carrera (MFI). Expensive but well worth. It compares in quality to the RS Konradsheim book

@ Porker : I did not think about that as they don't really bother me. Even if ideally without it would look cleaner . Then , as we know , anything not original on that kind of car will make it less valuable.

Hi Björn - this car is magnificent. You will love it, I'm sure. My Speedster is the holy grale. I love the car like I do not love any other. The drive is unique and  it doesn't need a bit more of technology than what you find in a 356. Enjoy!!!

Gnil.....I enquired about this car (in the Netherlands, correct ?) three days ago and it has sold. I would have bought it on the spot. Its what I want for rallying and that had the correct details and roll-cage etc.

I am on the hunt for a 2.7 MFI.....lets make sure we do not push prices up by bidding for the same car Smiley

Smiley You just did it...didn't you?!

Btw: I hate vintage cars. I like looking at some (not all) but I hate driving them. A friend asked me last year to join a classic rally with him (nothing fancy like what Sherif did, only a weekend here in Bavaria but very exclusive, lots of VIPs around with their personal cars, incl. some "vintage" race drivers Smiley) but I declined. Didn't see the fun in that because I was supposed to do most of the driving. I was also a bit scared because of the car (worth over 600k) and the fact that I cannot really drive slow, I would push it too hard and this is not the car or the event for doing that. Yes, I was scared I would mess up and make myself look like an ass but in retrospect, I may have enjoyed it...maybe. Still not a fan though, I love technology and refinement, not a vintage stuff type of guy, sorry. Smiley
