    At this point.... does it really matter?

    Comparing a car that is twice as much as the other seems a bit ridiculous. The numbers shouldn't have even been that close to begin with.

    It is interesting to see which is faster since the numbers are so similar. I wonder if the Tubo is faster to 100kph because of the traction advantage and slower to 200kph because of the extra weight and less power. Or perhaps it needs an extra shift right befor 200kph. The Z06 has longer gear ratios and actually reaches top speed in 5th. i would like to find out what gear each car is in when it hits 200.

    Z 06 4 gear -264 km/h, 5 gear- 320 km/h
    997 4 gear -205 km/h, 5 gear- 258 km/h

    The 400lb weight penalty of the TT is just too much of a torque robbing handicap for it to overcome the Vette in high speed accelleration from 200 to 300 kph.

    Wow with shorter gears, the Z06 would be a rocketship! Are those figures from sport auto or official numbers? Thanks for all the info.

    310km Top speed seems to low, 996TT with 60Hp less have the same Top speed. Regarding the accelaration numbers , it shines

    So, nothing special. We can say that the car accelerates from 100 to 200 km/h in 8,6 seonds, the same as in Auto Zeitung. Nice and very fast, but not quite as fast as the C6Z.

    Different? The opnly difference between AZ and AMS times is the 0,2 sec faster time from 0 to 100 km/h. The 100-200 km/h times are the same.

    Top speed on the 997 TT is "electronically" limited to 310km/h to fit tyre rating.

    if i remember correctly sport auto tested the same car with 3.9 for 0-100. not that it really makes a difference. Performancewise the 997tt and the z06 are pretty close with the z06 profiting from lower weight at higher speed acceleration which compensates for the unfavourable gear ratios. that engine must be a real beast.
    the REAL difference between the cars will be in handling, driving dynamics etc. 997 is the dynamically better rounded and versatile car, z06 the sportier, but less complete one.

    Sport Chrono was active, top speed is NOT the tested top speed, AMS always uses manufacturer claim for cars faster than 250 kph, unless otherwise mentioned.

    Which confirms what we've been telling people all the time: 0.5 s faster 0-200 kph time with Sport Chrono active, meaning: around 11.8 seconds for the Tiptronic version.
    At least at par with the Z06.

    Very impressive: brake performance. 190 kph to 0 kph after 123 meters. This is Carrera GT territory, no wonder...the 997 Turbo equipped with PCCB has the same brake system.

    The review is pretty short I'm afraid but I like the comment about the "classic" sportscar driver "clean line" driving and how it favors the 997 Turbo performance with PSM almost not kicking in at all.

    Nethertheless, I'm a little bit disappointed with the short review, I expected something more profound/in-depth. We probably see that in SPORT AUTO, a AMS "sister".

    As RC said test is little bit short but, very good one!
    So, are all of you pleased with performance? Well, I am and as RC said TIP is only little bit faster(you will see in few issues of AMS-they already measured it!). And when I said little bit-I mean little bit(just 0.1s in 0-200km/h )!
    Regarding competition, 997 Turbo is faster then F430,Gallardo or SL55AMG(sorry, this one is competitor also). Corvette Z06? I would say that it is in the same league as 997 Turbo. Look at in-gear test figures from AMS test...
    60-100km/h: 4.0s/6.0s(4/5)
    80-120km/h: 4.1s/6.1s(4/5)
    60-100km/h: 11.0s(6)
    80-120km/h: 11.1s(6)
    400m: 11.8s(199km/h)
    Slalom 18m: 66.5km/h
    ISO: 141.4km/h
    VDA: 76/61km/h(in/out)

    And as RC pointed out performance of 997 Turbo are in some points at CGT level. Truly amazing...

    Yes, I'm very pleased. It's about as fast as RC claimed a year ago, but the 3.8-litre Turbo S is missing .

    Just a comment about Z06. Several participants in the Opus 911 commented that they drive Z06s, but they do not take them out in bad conditions. I have not driven a Z06 (have driven Z05), but I would be very surprised if the bad weather traction is as good as the 997TT. We drove in some ice, snow and heavy rain in Austria and the car was remarkable.

    Sometimes the arguments on this Board are based on numbers alone IMHO, and not on real world, long term conditions.

    The whole wet traction thing is a huge consideration. My old E36M3 was frightening in the wet because the dry performance envelope was so good and a driver gets overconfident. With the 997tt's wet handling capabilities it really becomes an all-weather supercar with very few grounding days due to mother nature.

    So, if we were to assume that overboost was used on both cars...

    The manual 997TT w/ SC did 12.3 (12.8)
    The tip 997TT w/ SC did 12.2 (12.2)

    Numbers in parenthesis are official Porsche times. Do we know for a fact if the official Porsche times also enabled overboost?

    For Wonderbar

    The C6 Z06 has some unique climate and localization compromises.

    Its OEM runflat tires are not optimum for traction below freezing, but are good in the rain and are really good
    for US roads where nails, screws and foreign objects are not uncommon.

    The 997TT Tip though is a paradigm shift for sportscars and inclement weather. You can get very aggressive launch's and accelleration in very bad conditions. Porsches look great and at home in the snow, so its really adding some
    more value to the brand besides just performance enhancement.

    The Lamborghini Gallardo is probably the second best winter sports car - ever see Ferrari offer factory winter wheels and snow tires? Lambo does.

    Yes...especially since the GT3 uses semi-slicks.
