    Dr. Phil:

    So, I just went to the dealer to drop off the car for the brake fix. I made sure to pre-book a loaner car while they fix my own.
    Apparently the salesman (who handled my rental)  was supposed to book that car - but forgot.
    They found a nice Golf Diesel full of navel lint and bread crumbs instead.
    Again: Brilliant service, I must say. They really go out of their way to make me feel appreciated as a client.

    Are they related to Leawood's Porsche dealer in Kansas by chance? Smiley

    Obviously from the same charm school. Appreciate the shout out. Smiley

    Re: Excessive break and oil wear. Can someone explain?

    Empty fuel tank, yellow engine light...

    A key problem of getting extremely low on fuel is the gunk at the very bottom of your fuel tank. The sediment in the nether regions of the tank can clog the fuel-pump pickup, the fuel filter or the fuel injectors. You might even hit the trifecta and foul all three. In addition, as strange as it may sound, gasoline is sometimes used as a coolant for the electric fuel pump, so when a minimum level of fuel is not maintained, it could cause the pump inside the tank to overheat. In extreme cases, the catalytic converter can be damaged as well.

    If you are "lucky", they pin this on you (and they would be right to do so), so try not to mention the empty fuel tank!!!

    Could also be that your style of driving was very economic when you arrived, so the computer calculated 50 km left . And they went for a very heavy and hard test drive , computer then calculates in accordance to the last drive .

    But no matter what , that place looks like one to avoid .  I would write a letter to the head management stating all what happened . And then find another smaller garage .

    Re: Excessive break and oil wear. Can someone explain?

    @RC,
    Ok, thanks. Just to be clear: the car never ran out of fuel or behaved like it was.
    To me, it was primarily a matter of bad service. But you may be right. I have my suspicions that their trackday driving has weakened the car. But who knows.
    I haven´t mentioned anything to anyone about anything other than the obvious yellow light.
    I´ll wait and see.

    @Gnil,
    Yes, that would make sense. Naturally, it´s fine they test the car and brake hard after changing the brakes.
    Just thought it showed their "amazing" level of service that they thought it was fine to give me back an empty car.
    It´s a rental, so I can´t choose anything when it comes to service. I can only hope/demand that they fix it.
    Doesn´t give me the best confidence before my trip to Italy, that´s for sure.
    Hopefully I´ll know more about its condition tomorrow.

    Thanks both for your input :)

    Just be careful what you tell them, do not mention the empty fuel tank (as a precaution!).

    Some dealers offer good service, others don't.

    I like my Audi dealership but when I told them that I want a certain (lower) tire pressure in my new tires (I told the service manager personally and via email), they ignored it and put the higher (regular) tire pressure into the tires. OK, no big deal (the other way around would have been worse) but still...

    Can you change the dealer?

    I hope this gets resolved for you soon, it's clear from your posts how angry it's making you.

    Re: Excessive break and oil wear. Can someone explain?

    I got it back again yesterday. They said it was a periodic glitch. No idea what happened.
    Seems to work fine now, apart from the exhaust valve not working the first 20 min or so. Very weird.
    Now I "only" have to get them to compensate me for the actual days, kms and expenses I´ve had with all these visits to the garage. It´s the absolute least I can accept, so I hope they don´t cause more problems and mess up my blood pressure even more mailindecision

    They probably did a complete reset of all the ECUs, this is the first thing they do in such a case. Probably also the reason the exhaust valve didn't work in the beginning.
