The 3.8 is M97 engine?
YES, the one in the 997S is an M97. The 3.8L used in the 964 and 993 were based on the same block as the GT3.
How old is the current GT3/TT engine?
It is based on the 964 dry-sump block that started in 1989.
I just notice the Ferrari F430CS is much lighter and have 80+hp over the RS. I am wondering how's the RS keep up with that?
Well, Ferrari tends to overstate power and understate weight, but even so, it will be hard to catch (and should be at almost double the price)
One of the interesting things about the F430 is when tested in BEST MOTORING INTERNATIONAL, a dubbed version of a Japanese TV show, they line up a 996 GT3 vs an F430. The funny thing, the GT3 beats it off the line and stays ahead until about 150 MPH (it's a long oval test track). The pilot in the F430 is amazed, thinking that traction control and all the other gizmos will outperform the GT3. Not really, and for half the price. I think I saw it at Coocha's videos. That was the 996 GT3, not 997, too.
