Could be the solution going back to a 2-seater

drive it and hear it. It drives very agile and fast. My testdrive is over a year ago, but I was deeply impressed. It feels like a sports car. Best of all is the sound. You don't sit into an 991 after hearing that one. Last not least - if you buy a year old car, it has so much depreciation on it that it is almost considered a bargain!

When the GTR will finally hit the roads (in about a year from now Smiley) I will do a test drive, for sure Smiley Design wise the GTC/GTR looks great.

Until two years ago I drove the 2-seater (all generations of Boxsters) and my wife the “family” car. Then she moved to London and we switched to one big car (X5). She ‘ll be back this years and she wants/needs an own car. Favorit car right now is the AMG GT roadstar (2nd hand, paid by her and not used as a business car, only for the weekends). The price development could support this decision.

Pro: The look, big enough trunk

Cons: Sound – too loud (not my car)

Speed and chassis doesn’t matter, more than enough for my wife. I would prefer a R8 or MC12. Or no sports car and instead of this something like a Hallberg-Rassy. First world problems

    Re: AMG GT-C / 50years anniversary

Seriously? Too loud? The AMG GT is half or even a third the loudness of my R8. angry Of course you can regulate loudness by a button but I usually want my car(s) to be loud.

The R8 and the 12C (I would get the 570S instead, there are some interesting lease offers now) are nice cars, no doubt about it. Just don't get the R8 V10 (without Plus) or the Spider, they have a completely different and very annoying too comfortable/soft chassis setup. Drove the Spider and was shocked how bad the chassis was, the review in Sport Auto confirmed it. What a pity.

That's the reason why my wife won't buy the R8 (although the likes the look of the (brown) Spyder). She once told me that nobody older than 20 should drive such a "Schwanzverlängerung" (sorry)

Don't worry, I heard this from my wife's girlfriends since I married her 24 years ago. Smiley My wife was pretty upset in the beginning because they were saying that but now, she couldn't be more relaxed about it. She knows I love cars and that I don't care what others think, especially women Smiley Smiley, so... Smiley

Interesting: Their husbands/friends (wife's girlfriends) are not very sympathetic towards my car(s). Only exception is a 60 year old guy, probably the nicest person in the world and one of my best friends. He drives a 3 series station wagon but surprisingly loves cars. He just doesn't see a point to spend that much money for them (he is a typical Swabian as we say here in my region Smiley). Not a fan of driving with me though...last time he almost had a heart attack. Smiley Smiley

His words were actually "how the heck do you still have your driver's license?". Smiley

He drives me nuts when I drive with him, he has manual (I don't have a clue why...probably because it is cheaper Smiley) and shifts at around 2500 rpm (320d), so I had to set an example (not that it worked Smiley).

For me, a 2008 GT3 RS is a track car, not a sportscar.
Maybe we meet sometime in the future and I will explain the difference to you. Smiley Maybe even in a C4 GTS Cab. Smiley Smiley

My superiority? Smiley Remember: You started this crap, this is only the backlash. Unlike you however, I was a professional racing driver with a pro license and a professional racing team. Not a track driver. I also had 30 years since that time to improve my driving, so maybe you're not that wrong about the superiority (in driving...). Smiley

The 50th anniversary special edition is sold out you needed to be a super super super client in order to get one.

The "normal" GT-C is right now having a delivery time of 18 months. If you order today you will receive it end of 2018. it seems, that people are getting used to the GT and it finally finds its attraction

It also seems Mercedes makes better offers (leases, finance, rebates) and the cars are more attractive (and competitive) now with the power upgrades and tweaks. Smiley Also, Mercedes still uses a V8 in these cars, while Porsche uses a Boxer Biturbo in the facelifted 991.2. Most people probably don't care about this detail but some customers don't want to pay big bucks for the new facelift and rather prefer the AMG GT for basically the same money (or even lower, considering the offers from Mercedes dealers...).

Hmmm - price may be a point. But for new ones, you hardly get over 9%.

Also I think that people got "used" to the GT design. And being honest - same to me. I think it looks much better than I thought a year ago. Myself - I love the new front. Car looks really hot now. And the rear was always better looking than the 911.

I guess it is a mix of all factors which makes this car now more adorable and more often to see in the city.

    Re: AMG GT-C / 50years anniversary

The GT somehow looks much better as a cabrio, and thats coming from someone usually unimpressed by convertibles. Exactly the opposite to the 911.

As for the "gaping mouth", well at least Mercedes has a variety of historic grilles to reference, why shouldn't they use them? makes the cars less boring than, for example, having every car being trapped by the symmetry of two kidneys....

IMG_0760.JPGAh, and just after I write that - I see that this grille is now on a SUV, new GLC63.... they didn't keep it exclusive to the sports car long, did they?

    Re: AMG GT-C / 50years anniversary

I wouldn't have expected it to be unique to the sportscar. Mercedes has to maintain brand identity. The GT is just a regular model at the end of the day.

    Re: AMG GT-C / 50years anniversary

Finally got to drive the new C63 AMG S Coupe today...oh boy...what a disappointment.

Great looks, interior looks nice too (not exactly my style but still...), quality also seems to be good and the car looks great with those larger fenders but the engine sucks. Turbo lag is annoying, even in the sportiest setup, serious traction issues (reminds me of my former GT500) and while the engine/exhaust sound isn't bad, it isn't even close to my former C63 AMG Coupe PP (previous model). Nice car for the money they're asking and I would definitely get this one over the M4 but still...not really my thing.
