Mediocre, at best Smiley I am hoping for a cabriolet and a targa of each version (for my friend SciFrog, who have had to wait so long). Did anyone else hear the rumour about an all-wheel drive GT3 Touring 4?

Anyway, it will be a model fest! Like when the GTS was presented. A coupe, cabriolet and targa. Rear- and all-wheel drive versions of all three. The online Porsche configurator almost ran out of memory from all the combinations.

Let's face it. We would love to see the GT3 motor in all 911s. Maybe even in a cayman or two. It is all about the motor and feeling like you wasted 100k if your 911 does not have one.

Yes that's about right. Although wasted is probably a little harsh, just not as well spent as possible.

If memory serves Ferry Porsche's 73 2.7 RS was sans ducktail, light green metallic, and debadged per his request. Two other family RS were sportomatic.  Porsche understands that customers want different flavors and are willing to pay for the privilege.

The 73' 2.7 RS could be specified with the rear ducktail delete option, it was a factory option available to all customers. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with Porsche offering this option on the GT3.

    Quite interesting,

why option not available from day 1 ?

it could frustrate some buyers like me.And also bring a lot of confusion with adding more options on the way.

i would love two seats in the gt3 to bring the kid with .....

    but with the wing ! A GT3 without wing ...... is not a gt3.....

Here's another take on this: Was at the dealer yesterday, they had some sort of Porsche day with GTS models presentation and other stuff. Was nice. However, the sales guys (all of them!!!) told me that the Touring Package has been canceled and that they had so many interested customers and now they are in a bind. I was surprised to hear that because I got a different information. Now I think I kind of raised their hopes but I am now more confused than ever.

Rumored reason for the cancelation: Apparently they had issues with aerodynamics at higher speeds (over 270) without the rear wing and with the standard GT3.2 front. Something they apparently knew from the 911 R already...but the GT3 is supposed to be a track car and they couldn't do it without major changes to the front.

So please take everything with a grain of salt, rumors travel fast and are often not accurate and/or just a misinterpretation of something somebody said. We just need to wait for Porsche to clarify but so far...apparently...no Touring Package...at least it cannot be ordered yet.

Smiley True but you'd be surprised how many people seem to like the new turbo charged 991.2 Carrera. Smiley Was at my dealer yesterday, most people I talked to couldn't care less about the engine.

Funny: Picked up my 991.2 GTS there (wheels exchange, winter/summer, service action with the spark plugs, etc.) and after I started my engine, a guy with his wife came over and told me how nice the turbo(!) engine sounds. I told him that this is the pre-facelift model and when I told him that it actually has 10 hp more than the standard Carrera S, he couldn't care less. I realized he was just interested in the car per se, so I let him and his wife look at it for a few minutes and then they went inside, probably discussing how much better the new one looks Smiley (they had a 991.2 GTS Cab inside, really great looking with carbon mirror covers and whatnot, sorry forgot to take pictures).

I get your cynicism (or is it supposed to be sarcasm Smiley), probably the side effect of driving a Cayman instead of a 911, I've seen this before but you'll get there, eventually. Smiley

I would love GT3 tech in my 991.1 GTS Cab, I just feel ripped off by Porsche charging 163k for a car which has an "inferior" engine, chassis and brake tech. This is what many others feel as well. I understand why GT3 owners would be opposed to having this tech in every other Carrera as well but this is about feelings, emotions and whatnot, this has nothing to do with reality. Oh and of course this is about marketing and cost: The marketing department is afraid that a GT3 Cab could offend GT3 hardcore customers and the cost department would oppose the increased production cost.

Some customers aren't happy with "something", they want the "best". Porsche needs to understand but I get it...the 3%...bla bla bla...not important for them. Probably the 3% (and slowly more) they lost to McLaren and other brands. Smiley Smiley

You missed my point. In the past all 911 Porsche's had dry sump air cooled engines with serious track ability. Not trying to confuse this with Turbo motors.  It would be nice if the GT3 engine was the starting point. With the base model getting a slightly detuned version offering more mileage and durability and then stepping up from there. These are 100k cars!  Give us a nice motor.

991.2 GT3 RS has no definitive green light yet, decision will be taken soon, also based on GT3 sales.

992 Turbo hybrid development is still going on, so... yes Maybe to make sure they don't fall behind? I don't have a clue but it is still in development

991.2 T may be that special edition model but rumors indicate that it is actually based on the 991.2 Turbo S.

Touring package for GT3 has green light but I still struggle with finding out what it contains. Very likely wing-less option though, rear seats unlikely.

Porsche won't release a GT3 without wing and with rear seats. It would KILL the sales of the high specced regular Carreras and would cost Porsche a fortune in high margin sales. The demand would be huge and they could not even deliver. It would also tarnish the 911 turbo sales and the even higher margins there.

+1. That's a real risk (re sales) as why would one buy a GTS (or even a more potent Turbo/Turbo S) if there is a GT3 to seat four. Always thought that the purpose of a GTS is to satisfy those who wants 4 seats but with a desire to have a more sporty feel than the standard Carerra.

No it won't. For the needs of the regular Carrera owner their car is superior to a GT3. I know why you think it will, but you got the common 911 owner wrong. Their needs are not like yours.

The problem with the touring package seems to be that dealers got the information that it won't come. Just heard this from my dealer last Saturday during a Porsche event. When I told him that the touring package could come, he (and the other sales persons) were so excited. They have tons of customers waiting for such an option... Now I don't know what to believe: Does the touring package come or not? Why would Porsche tell their dealers that it doesn't come, if it comes?! Smiley

Very true but on the other hand, if there is demand and money can be made... Also, no rear seats with this package, no AWD, no cabriolet...so...still makes sense. Many Porsche 911 customers also couldn't care less about the engine used. Smiley

For 99% of all Porsche 911 customers the turbo-charged engine in the Carrera meet their needs far better than the GT3 engine. If Porsche were to put the GT3 engine in all 911 they would sell far less cars.

    True...unfortunately.

Something I heard pretty often from new 991.2 owners: "Now I drive a small 911 Turbo...". Seems that Porsche marketing knows their customers pretty well. Smiley

While I think a Touring option for the GT3 would be great, and there is certainly demand for it, I have serious doubts Porsche will offer it because from a business point it doesn't make sense. While there is a demand for it, they wont make more money because they will already sell all the regular GT3 they are able to make til the 992 without a touring optin anyway, and instead they are likely to make some of their VIP customers who got a 991R that don't want a manual wingless GT3 with a better engine to drop their second hand value nor traditional GT3 owners who don't want to see a wingless GT3 around. Its a loose-loose for Porsche.

Porsche makes money off me, isn't that enough??Smiley  Seriously, I think your reasoning is sound.  Porsche knew the aero issues for a potential wing less GT3 when they developed the R so it can't be a real obstacle.  It seems more reasonable that marketing drives the production decisions more than engineering.

So those that want a manual GT3 what do they do? its unknown when the manual will be available as an option but production slots are going fast given the demand, if they wait for the manual they may not get a production slot at all. Which makes me wonder, if Porsche waits too much to offer the manual, then most of the orders are going to be PDK customers which are going to fill all the available production slots, manual option will practically not hit the streets in actuality
