    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Going  back a few posts on this thread there was a comment that the manual in the eyes of some (not  the poster) could make one  feel more manly... I have never seen that or heard that but I don't  reside in a large city where that could possibly be happening. Wow, if  that makes someone more manly than another...yikes!

The thread also mentioned that some Americans have their car spoilers raised,  when it can be  done, for no apparent reason, other than thinking that it looks cool.  I have seen that very infrequently but I certainly would not say it is common practice.  Again, maybe more common in larger cities. At least in the GT3 then in the eyes of those that raise their car spoilers to look cool,  we always look cool....

In NA I think that jealousy plays a role in how some people view those that own high performance sports cars.  It is North America after all...The perception that everyone is a jerk that owns a "fancy car"  is hard to shake because of the few idiots, regardless of the brand, who are very visible by their driving  actions. The cars are very visible and someone acting act in a stupid fashion will generate that unwanted  attention by jealous types or by those in the "serve and protect",  career. By being in a highly visible car it is all that much more  important to be less visible when driving it on regular roadways.... save it  for the track! I  know that I state the obvious but it rings true on a daily basis....

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I have rarely seen someone driving badly in a luxury sport car. Usually the culprits are driving minivans and ricer type cheap cars. Maybe in Canada what you say is true but fancy car owners are not seen as jerks at all in the USA.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

There are idiot drivers in all types of cars equally, its just that those in more expensive cars get more attention and are noticed more.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Popped into the dealer this morning and asked about GT3 availability.  No problem, she said.  Aside from manuals, which they seemingly can't commit to at the moment, a PDK-S car can be ordered and they have slots for anyone with the money..  She did say they'd had quite a lot of interest in manuals, and thought this was bizarre indecision

I think all the people who have been sitting on 997 GT3 / RS because of no manual in the 991.1 GT3 are now considering an upgrade. I met two 997 GT3 owners at the last track day who both said they waited for manual. Neither had any interest in the 991.1 due to PDK only. The demand for manual is probably much larger than what Porsche anticipated.

Might be a great opportunity to pick up a 997.2 GT3 RS indecision

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

997.2 GT3 RS is worthless now, especially the 4.0 - old tech, who wants that?

    Shameless plug:
I can help you take car of that old lump for you - I can even pick it up if you want - no need to for you to bother - instead you can focus on which PTS to get and fully focus on that shopping experience.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Porsche should be proud of all the interest on the manual option for the GT3, it says a lot about what kind of car they were able to build, a true driver's car, not many automakers can say the same thing and dump horsepower in it and/or flashy looks to compensate.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

    +1

I'm no car engineer but I suppose PDK-S makes it easier to develop that rather complex integration between various systems/features of the car - putting a manual box in this very electronical context is probably a lot more work than we can imagine.

I bet nothing will come close to the 997 GT cars when it comes to driver involvement and feeling. Those cars were still built when the motorsport department was setting the tone and not the marketing department.

There's nothing on the cards immediately, I am still on the list for a manual 991.2 GT3 for production April 2018 so still have a long time to consider what to do. Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I wouldn't say bad news for current 991.1 GT3RS owners, the difference is not going to be that great, slight bump in HP and adding the diffuser that's all. The chassis with the wide track and extra wide rubber stays the same.

The biggest jump in performance was from the 997 GT3RS 4.0 to the 991.1 GT3RS, the swap to PDK for decreasing shift time plus the much bigger rubber and the HP bump means a massive increase in performance on track.

Even back then, the 4.0's release didn't quite affect the 3.8's prices that much, while the 4.0 has sky rocketed in price, the 3.8 I believe is still trading at a healthy price even now.
