    And the F40 the worst to drive, but gosh there´s nothing with more soul than an F40, it´s beautifu today, and within 50 years from now. I think the LaFerrari will age very well too, F12 will be an icon too, FF Smiley

    The only mistake I think they made with the CGT is that it has the steering wheel of the ordinary 996... looks so out of place. For the rest, this car is an instnat classic to me. Allthough the 918 is the current hyperporsche, I think for pure aesthetics, I like the CGT more.

    The Enzo is actually nice only in non red colors, good point, those pics are sweet. I like it more than the LaF

    Transport made good times and got in this morning. My foreman is gonna do a complete service of the car, replace the 4 tires, getting the car registered for my province. 

    Not that the car is in bad shape, it is in fact in excellent shape, all the rubber seals are still pliable, the rubber hoses are still soft, event the original zinc hose clamps are still on. Paint is pretty much perfect and has a complete clear bra on the whole car. All 4 wheels are perfect too and only slight discolouration on the front brake callipers. None of the interior switches are showing wear and tear nor peeling. A/C works, and so are all the lights. Engine is running fine also. The sunroof seal is also good. 

    The only negative is the front windshield has a slight de-lamination at the corner. Doesn't bug me. The exhaust has changed to a aftermarket one, but it's just cat back only. The suspension has also been changed to Bilstein/H&R combo. Oh and the radio has been switched to a Blaupunkt CD unit, which will be switched to a Porsche Classic Radio as e speak. 

    My guy is gonna do a running log of all the things that's not OEM when he do the service and will advice me on what's needed to be changed back to OEM. Easy to do now that Porsche has Porsche Classic program.

     

    Another tidbit, I never know this, but in the 964 Turbo, the exhaust only comes out of the passenger side, the driver side pipe is from the turbo bypass, that pipe is not connected to the muffler.

    Nope, car was waiting for parts from Porsche Classic last week when I got back, and now I am in LA, hopefully the car will be finished when i get back.

    Nick's impressions: 1- Clutch pedal is heavy,lots of knee pain ,2-when turbo comes, my back hearts 3-Vancouver-whistler is more fun by sunroof down 4-Huge thumbs up from people, 5- more cargo at front comparing to other cars,although its a small car indecision

    Finally took it home. Well temporarily, wanted to drive it for the 1st PCA morning drive of this year tomorrow morning. 

    The clutch pick up still needed to be adjusted, M30 suspensions and OEM exhaust are still on route. 

    1st impression: WHAT. THE. FUCK. IS. PORSCHE. THINKING. when they do the ergonomics inside the car. Drives me crazy trying to find all the switches.

    Clutch is sort of heavy, and don't quite like the offset inboard position, the foot rest keep catching my left foot. And because of the angle of the clutch pedal, I need to seat myself closer to the dash than I normally do.

    Shifter, good enough, but no where close to as precise and positive as in the 911R. 

    Car is really awfully small inside, I felt like a giant sitting there, and I can reach the back seat fold down locks without leaning, something I cannot do in a 996, 997 or 991. 

    Was in traffic on the way home, gonna have dinner first then head back out for more driving.

    Love it, that snug feeling, it's the same in my e30 and it's so cool! I would definitely swap out your steering wheel for a lighter version though, that'll maybe make your workspace look/feel a little bigger. Happy cruising and share some more pics!! I know we'll have rain, rain and rain all weekend, but hey it's still beautiful

    So here is a funny story.

    I put on about 150km on the 3.6 today, while driving on the highway, I noticed one of the gauges seems dead, the one next to the fuel gauge. In the next circle, it's the oil temp and oil pressure, so I automatically assumed the dead one was the water temp gauge. 

    Called up my mechanic to be a smart ass and let him know he missed replacing a dead gauge. 

    He reminded me the car is air cooled, no radiators and hence no coolants, and no water temp gauge. That was the oil level gauge and while driving it should be hovering around the min level. angry Oops! 

    More stuff to learn driving old classics. 

    While the car is not consider very fast nowadays after 20+ years, it is still adequately fast! That boost and turbo lag, major kick when full boost come along, is addictive! The distinctive air cooled engine sound is very enjoyable too!

    Wonder what took me so long to chase old Porsche Classics. 

    One major complaint, those headlights, man, my iPhone's LED shines brighter. How do people drive with those headlights back then?

    The oil level gauge can be confusing. It works when at idle and standing still on level ground as I recall. Engine engine warm. My Mezger Turbo has the same gauge but digital. Works much in the same way. It is a dry sump thing. 

    Enjoy!  Boost is addicting for certain.

    Went out for a morning drive in the 3.6 at 5:30am, 1st breakfast run of the local PCA of the season. Starts off cold and rainy but hey, it's a Porsche, it will work even in the rain.

    Still trying to get use to the low redline laugh everything else I had been driving had at least a 8k redline

    I found that sunroof button while hunting for the mirror control button. Fucking Porsche hide switches wherever they feel like, there is zero logic to the placements!

    But seriously, going back to driving the old stuff makes one appreciate the modern cars event more, the ergonomics (still not perfect but at least buttons are mostly grouped together on functions and usage) and the biggest thing, safety net.

    This morning was raining and I had the tail out a few times in a straight line when I lay down the hammer in 2nd gear, pretty fun but it snaps abruptly than modern 911s that's for sure.

    Any old Porsche Classic right now is an investment grade car, especially with my 3.6's condition. 

    Having said that, investment is not my priority, I do plan on driving it regularly, actually come to think of it, I think I will drive the 3.6 more than the 911R when that car comes home.

    The 3.6 is simply the better car experience wise. it has to be man handled, but it will also bite, taming it gives great satisfactions.

    Yes it is a lot slower than the 911R, ergonomics are bad and technology is ancient, but now that I had some seat times in both cars, I came to a conclusion this morning.

    I found that the 911R lacks a soul.

    It is a better car in just about any way how one measures it, faster, bigger, more agile, safer, easy to drive, etc. But, it doesn't 'talk' to the driver like an old car does.

    Shocking conclusion, contradict pretty much every reviewer on the planet. I know. 

    There is no denying the lofty redline on the NA engine in the R that sings to the driver, a delightful note, but that's just about the one saving grace for the 911R.

    When I take out a manual car, which I will have 2 now, means I am not planning to go 'fast' that day, so the extra pace the 911R has is pointless. If I want to go fast, I also won't be taking the 911R, there are 3 other faster cars in the garage right now. The 911R is stuck in no mans land. 

    AP tried to go back to old school for the 911R, to bring back driver's involvement, in that measure, it failed. It is a modern interpretation of Porsche's classic cars, but it is not a replacement. 

    I was planning to add a 930 Turbo, 1989, but now I think I am gonna go look for a Speedster instead.

    If you haven't done first gas fill up, don't get mad if every sec you have to push the nuzzle , just turn it 180^ ( upside down), and it will pump till the end.
