    Cayenne Turbo Powerkit

The Power Kit will produce an output of 500PS and 700 Nm.
    Starting with MY 2005.

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Powerkit

Sounds great ,what is source for this information, has Porsche confirmed?

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Powerkit

    No official confirmation.
Info obtained from a reliable source.
Available from production May 2004 (MY2005).

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Powerkit

I had assumed that the Cayenne May model year change was for the first year only. Will this be the month for model year changes going forward as well?

    Re: Cayenne Turbo Powerkit

    I don't know.

    Re: retrofit possible? (no text)

    ??

    Re: retrofit possible? (no text)

    I don't know.
Hopefully I can answer that question tomorrow.

    Re: retrofit possible? (no text)

Are you going for the upgrade CF?

    Re: retrofit possible? (no text)

    Yes, if it's possible.

I would upgrade immediately and I hope Porsche is clever enough to see the marketing potential of a retrofit kit.
Hopefully the price tag will be acceptable, I wouldn't pay 10000 Euro for 50 HP more power. NEVER!
Especially since it is pretty easy to get 50 horses more by a slight increase of boost pressure and some adaptation of fuel distribution. Meaning: as simple motronic upgrade (of course "well done" by somebody who knows what he's doing) would be sufficient for 50 HP more. If Porsche asks for internal engine mods, etc., we surely can forget about a retrofit kit from them. I also have to say that I don't like this policy of upgrades. If they want to keep customers happy, they should definetely offer attractively priced retrofit kits. But I guess I'm dreaming...as always.

    Re: retrofit possible? (no text)

So you're saying that in case of the 996 Turbo the 30 hp X50 kit for 13,000 Euros is a rip off?
I agree with you though, I'm no too sure I like this upgrade policy from Porsche.
Makes the owner of the normal model feel bitter as these powerkit are not introduced at the same time as the model itseld (996, 996 turbo, Cayenne Turbo, etc.) and the potential client think twice as these upgrades are very expensive indeed.

I think its an insulting rip off. But they know their cars are underpowered but will still sell (so far) due to their handling, etc and know that if you want to do something about the HP and you want to go the factory way (ease, reliability, warranty, etc), its either take it or leave it, so you have no choice but to jump through the hoop in that case. I think its a very cheezy and cheap policy from such a performance oriented sportcar company such as Porsche. Like pulling a few horses from the engine (that were there from the start hidden) every couple of years to increase sales of the model, instead of doing it since the start.

    Re: retrofit possible? (no text)

I am almost willing to bet that a Cayenne Turbo with the powerkit is going to post better acceleration times than a Gemballa Cayenne with 700 HP.

When you buy a power upgrade from Porsche you can at least be sure that it has the stated output.

That CAN NOT be said about Gemballa,Techart and all the other tuners (except RS tuning and RUF maybe).

BTW. The Gemballa "600" that currently holds the record on the "Ring" had about 850 HP and a suspension tuned for Racing and so on!!! This was a pure Racing car nothing else!
This car is not for sale since it isn't legal to drive on the road
(the actual car they used that is)
In my opinion there is only one way to get more power and that is to do it right (often expensive but with a warranty that works).

Keep in mind that when Porsche offer a power upgrade they have to be sure that it is reliable and that it fullfills all legal requirements.
The reliability issue is of great importance of course since the upgrade is covered by the warranty.

Naturally the tuners say that their cars are covered by a warranty too!?

GOOD LUCK when troubles arrive, which they most certainly will.

This is one reason why I'd prefer to buy a power upgrade from Porsche and not a Tuner.
Tuners are always fast to sell their products but when problems arise, the trouble starts.
