You really want to pay a lot of money to have your rims painted black when theyare already dark grey? Saw a white Audi with black rims today, not only it didn't look good but the guy was driving recklessly... The image the black rims project here is not a good one.

I like the black ones more, what can I say. Smiley Smiley

I can see these crazy laws regarding original equipment and voided warranty coming here. 10 guesses which side would be promoting them. No politics here though.

No politics indeed, but the credit for us having the current laws that require manufacturers to prove a mod was responsible for a failure (to disclaim warranty coverage) goes to two Democrats who created the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act:

I guess driving a stick shift in certain areas of the US can help you keep your car :-)

My daughter drove a 5-speed as her "school car".   She said it was very convenient to ask, "can you drive a stick?" when one of her classmates wanted to borrow her car.  Nobody ever answered, "Yes."

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

For the Germans, or Europeans for that matters, switching out factory parts is a lot harder than in North America.

For North Americans, they basically just needed to go to the parts department and order the said part and a simple swap, done. No VIN needed. And even if needed, the dealership can just pull out VINs from the database. That's how Suncoast parts do it so successfully for after the fact parts swaps. All those Exclusive leather and stitching pieces? They all needed VIN to order but they have enough VINs stockpiled for just about any combinations.

Actually I think they are already selling the 911R rear hatch on their website now.

Can we be honest? Many of the MT enthusiast want manual because they think it makes them more manly. Its like rolling up the shirt sleeves above the biceps. There is absolutely no redeeming quality to driving a manual transmission especially in a high performance sport car. All these cars are design to be driven with dual clutches for optimal performance. MT detracts from the car performance.

That said, Porsche knowing some of its base is stuck in the past, offers MT to make an easy dollar off them. Take the .2GT3, Porsche is charging the same for MT as it is for PDK-S. Everyone know that PDK on all other 911 models is a $3900 option. So those getting a MT on the GT3 are paying that much more.Smiley

It is the 1000th time this argument comes up Smiley

You are making the mistake to think that optimal performance is the recipe for driver involvement and feeling. It is not. Yes, a manual transmission detracts from the car's performance, but unless you plan to mainly use the car on the track you will never experience this level of performance on the road. Never, ever. I am big fan of PDK, but a precise short throw manual is a hell of a lot more fun.

Once you get your .2 GT3 with PDK-S you will know exactly what I am talking about. This car will be "pointless" on public roads. 9000 RPM and 15 millisecond shifts on the way to Starbucks? Hah! You won't even be able to experience 5% of the performance and I bet the car is only rewarding once you are pushing it to the limit. It is simply too good and civilized. That is why people choose manual, to get more involvement without having to drive the car like a Nürburgring record lap attempt...

But Nick, is it really that hard to imagine that other people may have different preferences and experience and may actually enjoy shifting manually? I can see how some people enjoy the PDK more and how some enjoy the manual more, heck many, like myself, enjoy either one more depending on the situation, its not a black and white matter.

As to the argument that many MT enthusiasts in US want a manual because its makes them feel more manly, then you could also argue that most of the animosity towards MT from PDK enthusiasts is because they feel intimidated and less manly with a PDK when there is a MT option available that can be chosen Smiley

The tired argument that MT provides the driver involvement and feeling and has nothing to do with performance crumbles when you consider that there are many cheaper fun cars that are MT. Take a MT Miata on a public road or track and you will have a ball IF that is your thing.Smiley

Carlos, as you well know getting maximum performance out of PDK does require skill so it has nothing to do with intimidation. The reality is MT enthusiasts like MT because it is a Freudian form of masturbation.indecision

It takes skill to move the shift lever into D while the car is parked?  I'm pretty sure that Automatic mode in PDK Sport mode is the highest performance setting with PDK-S...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Sorry, driver involvement is not a tired argument. I moved from a 997 to a 991GTS and made the mistake of getting with a PDK. Right now I'm trying to buy my old car back, because the GTS with PDK is no fun.

You're wrong in thinking that everybody wants a PDK. I don't have a problem with PDK on my Macan, but I hate it in the GTS because it is one of the key things that bother me. The other things that do bother me are the electrical steering and the fact that the car has lost its rawness. I used to describe my Porsche (997) as the closest thing to driving a motorcycle. Now the car is so civilized that it feels like a Mercedes C class, except that I paid 4X the price of C class.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I can't ever take nberry seriously as a driver since he told the story about the road rage incident and could not understand why someone would be upset about him not using his turn signal signaling (and endangering everyone around him routinely). The 'road raged' guy even complimented his car, advised him to be safe and use his signal and Nick thought it was aggressive and uncalled for road rage.  His reaction and lack of comprehension of how dangerous not signaling is so wrong on so many levels that him insulting anyone's driving or shifting preferences is a badge of honor.  Self driving cars can't come soon enough for me to coexist with drivers like that.

Optimal performance? Who cares about that when it's your DD?

    Emotional engagement? Yes, thank you.

A choice to have what I prefer without having to justify it to others who think they can intuit everyone else's motivation? Yes again.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Oh, and anyone who thinks their manliness is determined by their car, much less it's transmission... I can't even comprehend that.

Hmm, you can't comprehend that? Whether you want to admit it or not, the type of car you drive in many ways defines you. Some are just more honest about.

Leawood, I find it interesting that you failed mention that the driver who complained about the lack of a turn signal by me in changing lanes was almost 1000 feet behind. He could give a rats ass that I did not signal to change lanes. He was expressing his envy by finding fault in my driving. But since your a Trump voter, it's fair to assume it's beyond your comprehension.
