    996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

I added a C4S/993 style reflector strip to my car. I think that this classic reflector is something that should not only be limited to the C4S 996 models, since it was on 911s since ever. I would love to see it on the upcoming 997, but unfortunately Porsche decided against it (again).

I think it also makes the car look wider and lowers the visual focus of the car, thus making it look more sporty. What do you guys think?

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

    It looks great!

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

Wow. That's pretty cool. Talk about confuse someone from the rear... hehehe...

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

Agree with you 100%,definently complements and enhances the apperance....Absolutely correct

I love it. I've been thinking about the same thing for the same reasons. Please tell me what part you ordered, or where you got it. I want to do it.

    Thanks,

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

How much does such a part cost?

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

I had it on my 99 Cab and took it off after about a week. The reason was the reflector strip color did not match exactly the color of the tail lights and it is held on by double sided tape so it looked stuck on when you get up close. But to each his own

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

I think that it fits the color of my tail lights pretty good. However, I would prefer an original Porsche solution for the reflector strip. But since there is none, this reflector is as close as it will get.

I bought mine for 180 Euros at http://www.sportwagen-eckert.de

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

Wow! This looks much better like this!

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

    I think it looks photoshopped.

    Hi Martin,
No offence! Yeah, I would like to see a zoom just for curiosity. In fact I would consider this gadget for my '99 C2, providing it fits decently. The thing that struck me on your picture was the fact that you label it as a 993 C4S reflector while yours does not display the Porsche brandname nor the white reverse lights which 993's have in it...

Dr. - Are you a conspiracy theorist? I suggest you take a look at the ass end of a 996 C4S sometime - it's got the reflector all the way across the rear decklid with no lettering. Here's a picture: Ass end of a 996 C4S. Martin's thread title does say 993/C4S and I for one read that as 996 C4S, not 993 C4S. Changing over to the C4S taillights with the clear upper portion would complete the look (the red upper on the original taillights does upset the balance).

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

@Dr. Carrera: As Steve already pointed out, the thread title was meant as 993-style or (/) 996-C4S-style reflector stip. It wouldn't really make sense to point at the 993 C4S in this context, since every 993 had this reflector strip. With the 996, only the C4S has it.

@Steve: These aren't the original tail lights. There are no red/red tail lights available. The only available options are: lightgrey/red and amber/red. My red/red tail lights are custom made and give the car a slightly individual look.

I will post some more pictures of my car as soon as it finally stops snowing...

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

Martin: Ah, that explains why they looked so different. Ignore my comment about changing them as I made the bad assumption you were going for the complete C4S look.

You're quite right. I found another nice picture of a C4S ass which Martin for sure knows more about ...

Dr., this "996C4S evo" IS in fact a Photoshop job because I know the original picture (official Porsche press picture). But Martin's car is real. Honestly.

Yep, that's in fact a PS job. It was done by Matthias Wahl, exclusively for elfer-club.de as a vision of the upcoming 997. However the front-view is more spectacular than the rear view of that conceptual PS job.

To some people, our vision of the 997 appeared soooo real, they posted it as a real spyshot. So did AutoFiend for example. But since AutoFiend forgot to give credit (neither to the artist, Matthias, nor to the source, elfer-club.de), we (or better Matthias) complained and they took down the image again. Without an apology of course...

Link to the original article where Matthias Wahl's Vision997 concept sketches occured for the first time is HERE.

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

Just for curiosity? How about replacing the entire engine cover (don't know the correct English word: Motorraumdeckel in German) with a standard 996 C4S cover??? It's obviously more expensive... and tail lights are different
Anyone has any experience on that???

Replacing the deck lid (Motorraumdeckel) with the C4S deck lid doesn't work, since it doesn't fit. You would also need the C4S/GT2/turbo-style rear lights, which don't fit the narrow rear wings. Thus you would also need the wider rear wings... If you get the wider wings, then you will also need the wider rear bumper and the C4S/turbo-sideskirts...

So yea... it makes the upgrade A LITTLE more expensive.

Re: 996 Carrera with 993/C4S reflector

Martin, Looks great. If that's not a real C4S, it looks like the real thing.
