    All this aerokit talk reminds me of the debate about the whale tail and duck tail from the 70s and 80s - some loved them some hated them. I personally love them, had a tail on my 83SC and will get the aerokit on my 997S.

    1. the 997 Aerokit considerably reduces lift at the front axle and adds some drag at the rear axle...at speeds over 300 kph. What was the top speed of the 997 Carrera S again? Fact: 997 Aerokit...pretty useless, just show, like it or not.

    2. the GT3 "Aerokit" is NOT the same used for the 997 Carrera, not to speak about other aerodynamical differences.

    Porsche marketing always does a good job...kudos to them.



    The aerokit of the GT3 and Carerra are pretty much identical. So no .. NOT the same. But SAME AS!

    Theres that little gurney flap on the rear spoiler. But apart from that are there any other functional differences?

    I can't see the lack of paint on the front spiltter as being much benefit

    The venting in the front of the lid claims to be for the additional radiator needed for the GT3s engine. It is there as a solution to a problem caused by the additional cooling is it not? So not being required is probably an advantage?

    The benefits of reduced lift may only come into effect at very high speeds (Can't find much info on this), however the additional downforce will be beneficial at far lower speeds.

    Is this not more a case of Porsche staying quiet about the benefits of the carrera aerokit so as not to steal the thunder at the GT3 launch? As it is basically the same pieces of plastic!

    Had Porsche claimed "The new Aerokit Cup III increases high speed stability by providing absolutely zero lift on the front and rear axles - only downforce!" then this would have been old news by GT3 launch time.... Not what the marketeers would have wanted ...

    I agree 100%. There is no 1 car that is perfect for everyone. If people love the big wing go for it. If people don't well get another kit/car.

    I agree 100%. There is no 1 car that is perfect for everyone. If people love the big wing go for it. If people don't well get another kit/car.


    Totally agree! would have got aero-kit had it been at least less than half the price, but thought in the end not worth it, to those who have it - I think it looks great, even with the rear wing To each his/her own. like it or hate it, it's there for all to choose

    I also loved the whale tails on 70's and 80's 911's...... when I was a kid.

    I got over it.

    I've been casually on the hunt for a low-mile pristine 83-86, and it's got to be a no-tailer. I also like early Turbos, where the tail is required, which causes me to really prefer the early '76 Turbo Carreras, which had the least chunky/clunky looking tail.

    The only car the whale looked good on was my 1994 C2 Turbo 3.6

    Thanks Rhino, mine was a Equropean edition triple black C2 Turbo Cab, I had modified the suspension, big a$$ wheels + Tires and 420 h.p. after engine mods, ran strong and kicked a couple of vipers in the A$$ hard

    Not a high tech car but I loved the looks and the sound of that car. Sadly I blew a bearing at $30K and after that it was like a girlfriend who had cheated on me. Sold it at 33,000 miles
