OT: Pics of Gumball 3000 Finish in Beverly Hills
Rennteamers: Just got home from the finish of this year's Gumball 3000 race/ralley on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. For those not familiar with the Gumball 3000, it's a 3000 mile, three continent (Asia, Europe, North America), eight day race/ralley. Really, it's a moden day version of the 1970s movie, Cannonball Run, staring Burt Reynolds, and I understand that the winner gets a bronze statute of Burt himself. Every night after the day's drive there is a huge party at some of the swankest locations around the globe (including tonight at the Playboy Mansion). Typically, the drivers get little sleep because of all the partying, which can result in some unfortunate consequences (I heard there were a couple crashes). The winner this year was a friend of a friend of a friend (which makes me and him absolutely nothing) who drove a Bently GT that was packed with every possible police detecting and evading pice of equipment.
I believe there are about 100 cars that start the race, but I only saw about 20 at the finish. I saw two Porsches at the finish. One was a 996 GT2 that had seen better days and the other was a 996 Turbo still in pretty good shape. The GT2 looked like it had a bad incident with a high curb as the front spoiler and side rocker panels were all bent out of shape and cracked. Here are some pics of those cars and a few others.
I'm thinking about entering next year if I can find a suitable driving partner. Perhaps I can get RC to sponsor my car with a few Rennteam stickers!
