BTW, according to AP the new GT3 engine should be good for 300,000 miles without any adjustments. I doubt many keep their cars that long.yes

It was actually 300,000 km (186k miles) - still pretty long.  And I read in some of the literature that any valve adjusts will be free forever if needed...

The 300,000 km target is the standard Volkswagen corporate quality target and is exceeded in the real world as the quality metric is quite severe.  Even Bugatti and Lamborghini have to meet the same test targets which, in contrast to the AMG's recent statement on its new wonderkind needing rebuilds every 30,000 miles.

The downside of Platinum is that they look like they have brake dust on them when they are clean...

Get CCB if you don't like brake dust. They don't produce any.

Not exactly the best choice for serious track fun because they don't last even close to what Porsche promises for normal street usage and replacement is very expensive. Only one of the disadvantages for (serious) track addicts.

Well, they do a bit, but it's super-easy to clean off. I really miss that. The wheels on my GT3 are a right pain to keep clean surprise

The gap is closing though.. those big iron discs aren't exactly cheap either, and the OE drilled Brembos crack pretty quickly. The latest gen CCBs last a lot longer than the previous ones on track. Won't be long til the costs are comparable.

Yes, the latest PCCB generation is quite good but still not really good for extreme track fun. For weekend fun, yes. For semi-professional fun on serious tracks with serious driving...not really.

I wish Porsche would change to a different supplier (Surface Transforms who make the Movit brakes) - much longer life as the material is the same all the way through the thickness (PCCB just has two thin laminates for the friction surfaces).

You can fit those from Brembo (Type III or Type V) after you use the original rotors (and then just keep the aluminum hats with new frictions rings as you wear them out).  Not too expensive...

Exactly! I hated them. Even after a good wash they looked dirty. That's why I am going with silver this time. At least when they are clean, they look good.

What is in vogue regarding cars depends on the type of car. Porsche cars are not stylish. They are function over form. That's why black as an exterior color or black wheels don't suit the car. The car needs accessories to enhance its appearance.

Black hide lines on any object particularly cars. If one is ashamed of his car, Black is a great color.SmileySmiley

Have I told you guys that I am getting my R8 rims painted black (original Audi look/color)? indecision I really tried hard to get used to the titanium (platinum ) look of the rims but I just couldn't, even if I liked them for a while. Black looks so much better. You know the saying: Once you go black... smiley angry

Someone said that the car has a rev limiter at 8,500 rpm when the Sport button is off and 9,000 rpm with the Sport button on (adds Rev matching).  Not sure if this is true or not.  But having the red dotted line at 8,500 rpm simply shows a caution (like Yellow line) with hard limit at 9,000 rpm.  Seems reasonable to me...

Gnil - this is true that the power peak is 750 rpm before the redline, but this is typical.  Many people assume that it would be faster to shift at 8,250 rpm because of this, but this is a common misunderstanding.  If we drive around at only one engine speed (like with CVT gearbox), then yes 8,250 rpm would be the fastest place.  But we drive most of the time at changing engine speeds and we want the average engine speed to be as close to peak for as long as possible.  Shifting at 9k makes the engine speed closer to 8,250 rpm in the next higher gear when we shift.  If we shift at 8,250, then the engine speed is too low in the next higher gear for best performance...
