imho black wheels are like matt paint - not a fad I was a fan of and will be glad to see it pass as many reasonable cars (mine included) seem to be afflicted by it.

So - I've been late to the GT3 party and although I'm on the list, and given my buying history considered a good candidate, I'll not get one in 2017. However if I am successful, it will probably be my last 911 so a keeper for sure. Any UK folks have slots they're likely to pass on?

Matte paint has a revival in metallic tones...expensive as hell with some manufacturers.

I agree, those matte plain black or grey colors...not really great looking anymore. The good thing is though: Most younger people who loved to use this color for their older Volkswagens, BMWs, etc., mostly using cheap wrapping foil, have apparently walked away from these colors, so these colors aren't really that bad anymore.

The 991.2 GT3 is indeed a keeper in my opinion but be aware that the tech won't be cheap to maintain. Smiley

Which tech do you mean?  With regard to the solid valve lifters, my understanding is that any necessary adjustments are covered under warranty for the life of the car (I was surprised to see that - I'll have to look to find it if someone needs to see it)...

As a keeper, I assume he wants to keep the car for at least 5-10 years. Then, this tech gets expensive to repair and to maintain. Just imagine you need a new engine after five years...take a deep breath when you ask for the price tag. Smiley Not that it is much different with other GT models...

Right - any new GT3 motor costs a fortune.  But shouldn't this one last much longer than the one in the 991.1 GT3, 911R, and RS?  And it has no additional risks (that we know of yet) - seems like it should be cheaper in the long run (until we learn of something bad/scary) than those...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Like I said before...991.2 GT3 is a keeper. Everything moves towards hybrids and turbo charging, I really have strong doubts there will be another pure n/a engine in the next GT3 generation.

You never know though...Porsche will "milk" the GT cow as long as possible and this is basically the only car in this category with a n/a engine...and a manual option. So maybe they are going to build another one with the 992 model designation because let's be real here: The high revving n/a GT engine and/or manual make this car so special.

Could be, but I guess I'd be surprised if they didn't continue to amortize the development of the new engine and gearbox and use it in future models (maybe more like 911R than GT3).

True but there is still time...

Today I heard a rumor that Porsche may have pushed back the GT2 RS introduction because they decided to use a different engine. I just hope that this is not just the old rumor, just retold. Smiley

BTW, according to AP the new GT3 engine should be good for 300,000 miles with an adjustments. I doubt many keep their cars that long.yes

Finally, regarding black wheels. one time they were considered hip but today considered ricer. Think about it. When you see a Porsche with black wheels what comes to mind?

It was actually 300,000 km (186k miles) - still pretty long.  And I read in some of the literature that any valve adjusts will be free forever if needed...

    Cool? Smiley Smiley

Every time I see a GT3 or GT3 RS with silver rims, I ask myself: Why the heck does the owner his car to look...elegant? Smiley

Seriously: I think black rims fit sporty cars but I am probably in a minority here. Car manufacturers seem to think the same though, looking at the many sportscars offered with black rims as standard options. Smiley

Agreed - and in 15 years or so - retro! (I actually caught myself admiring the small proportions of a 2002 996 C2 yesterday - just looks so dinky). I'm actually leaning towards GT silver & platinum wheels - it's a dream at this point but if called tomorrow to confirm my order - it's probably what I'd go for right now...

Not street legal though since these new regulations affect tuners and third party parts as well. Smiley

The thing with street legal in Germany is: If you modify your car with a part which isn't street legal, the whole car looses it's technical certification. Worst case scenario: In case of an accident, the insurance refuses to pay because your car is has no technical certification anymore. It happened, bad bad thing to happen on a 200k car. Smiley

In other countries, the regulations may be less strict, don't know.
