Geneva: Sport Turismo expands Panamera model line
Just got back from Geneva. Spectacular highlights were the Chiron in the flesh (works much better IRL), the finish on the Huayra Roadster and the general stance/looks of the Huracan Performante, a really cool design and finally the Brabus Classic restorations looked incredible.
In the real world I was really impressed with the Panamera Gran Turismo (in grey, the blue makes it look too big) and Merc's E-Class coupé (really stylish in and out), the RR Velar looked impressively concept-like, in a good way.
I was a bit underwhelmed with the GT3, at least as presented there, wouldn't spec it in that red/black theme, and then again, I suppose it's not meant to be a show stopper anyway. The AMG GT R looks horrible in that matt green, interior felt pretty cool. Audi/BMW were a bit absent despite Audi's RS5 world première (horrible).
Porsche's hospitality was nice, relatively good food and drinks, good service!

I went again quickly last evening , as one of my son and his friend wanted to go .
If you can go after 5 PM , it is a perfect time . Not many people at all . I could approach or sit in any car available .
Interesting point : At Lambo, Porsche and Ferrari you need an official invitation to be able to access the cars behind the fence . At McLaren, anyone can go and sit in the 720 and walk around the others cars , still filtered by security .
At Audi , the R8 is parked next to all the other normal models, and anyone can sit in it . No control at all .

My father, who unfortunately died a few weeks ago, was a professional rally pilot during the sixties and told me that a friend of him drove a Merc SL 300 during rally's but that car was way too powerful and lacks grip all the time.
My father drove Lancia's and MG's and they were more controllable in cornering.
too bad he didn't kept one of those...even totalled.

My condolences, sorry for your loss.
So he was a real car nut as a former rally pilot, right? Know many of these people (was myself one of them, not as successful as others though) and they were/are great people and great fathers.

Doing rally's was a family business. His father and eldest brother also participated in this business.
When my father got married, my mother forbid him to continue rallying, so I never had the chance to see drving. But yes, his interest in cars is in my vaines too :-)
After that career, he started a Bosch Service Center and we (his crew and I as an electronics engineer) worked on cars with electrical problems, wether general of performance problems. Later on I went into the IT business as an independent consultant/infrastructure architect but never lost the interest in cars.
So very recently I bought this 911.2 and my father sat in a Porsche for the first time in his life. Nobody knew he would die 5 months later because a pancreas cancer.Nasty cancer I can tell you. Dead in 3 weeks

Sorry to hear that. Very true, nasty cancer. Saw a family friend (brought him liquid food all the time) go from a healthy overweight to basically a living skeleton in a couple of weeks as well, I never want to watch something like that ever again.
So sorry for you...

I don't know in which specific tread a read about the theory about what you need to earn in order to be able to by a 250€ car, but that discussion led me in to thinking about something that struck me In Geneva.
How little taste and stile do you need to have in order to by a 2M€ Koenigsegg???
As a swede I should be proud of this small company building potent cars, but what the f.. are they displaying? Gold rims, tacky design and all the cars looked to be speced by a Russian mobster on crack..... ( or a Middle East harem owner for that matter. But he would be excused in some way, be course I guess he's mind would be on other things than cars....)

Maybe they tend to a specific customer base?
They are into making money, not making us happy, so...
Speaking of gold rims and a tack design: I've already seen a couple of Ferraris, Lamborghinis and even a GT3 with that style...here in Germany. So I think some people just want to attract attention to themselves, for whatever reason. Or they feel that this kind of style is tasteful, I don't know. I have a friend who wears a Bismarck-style mustache and he really thinks all the women in the world dream of someone like him. He is good looking but that mustache... Kind of surprises me that he is surprised he hasn't found a woman for life yet. Only one night stands (with the weirdo ).

This color scene looked amazing in Miura, but pathetic on this Aventador. Anyways it´s typical from Lambo, some of their special editions seem to been order to Mansory.
