And I would quite enjoy winning a 997TT in Vegas. I would give it to someone who would like to have one, or maybe just sell it.

honestly ronnie , you would sell the tt? i bet you wont... you would sell the chevrolet with a big discount. i respect the z06,its the cheaper hp available, but please dont compare a chevrolet to a porsche...

It's no use Dimitri. You know, the scary thing is that I actually believe he'd sell the TT over his Corvette .

    Re: Motor Trend Test

Well, and if he would want, why not? Hell, some people even love ferrari's! (hey, before I start an untintentional flame: just kidding! However that is my HUMBLE opinion, I understand why people love ferrari's, just don't expect me to love them... and maybe don't expect other people to love porsches while you're at it )

Just for the record there is a guy on the Z06 Forum named "Ranger" Running 11.30 in the Quarter in a stock 06 Z06 on stock tires. I personally like both the 997 TT and the Z06 and I will have both fairly soon. The difference here is the Z06 guys track there cars alot and it will take a 997 TT owner to track his TT alot to compare figures more realistically. We have seen one test so far I would like to see more. I think everyone underestimated the new TT. I also think the 997 TT is a better all around car.

The TT they tested was a TIP...so even my grandmother could do that 1/4-mile time...

I'm really looking foward to seeing more tests of the TT and Z06.

Ronnie:I saw drivers in very fast cars being beaten by drivers in very slow cars.

3.2 in icy conditions????? god bless. Thanks for the scans mate, much much appreciated. I honestly don't know how much longer i can wait. Really starting to freak out.

    Re: Motor Trend Test

Finally.. I've been checking the mailbox every day waiting the issue to arrive.

i got sick of waiting for somebody else to post the scans, so i went and bought the issue & scanned it myself

    Re: Motor Trend Test

Thanks great article. Does this mean it could be faster in fair weather

    3.2 in ice

    Re: Motor Trend Test

I only brought up icy conditions because they said they were having trouble finding a place to launch. Imagine a sunny day, perfect asphalt, and a nice set of warmed up tires....heaven

    Re: Motor Trend Test

It's really incredible!!! I cant wait for the other tests and shoot outs

    Re: Motor Trend Test

    Max speed electronically limited...

No PDK for marketing reasons (well that's my interpertation)...
Too bad, as it really won't be here for at least 2 years, make it 3 if the car is very succesful.

This is one of the most positive article I have ever read about any car...

If money wasn't an issue, I would get one right away, replaced by an "S" cab with PDK in two years.

Guys, as much as I like what I read, you have to be aware of the following: the 3.2 seconds were achieved from 0-60 mph, the claimed 3.7 seconds (Tip) are for 0-62 mph.
AND furthermore: the Motor Trend driver did something which is pretty common with US testers but not that common over here when testing a car: keeping the foot on the brake, building up boost and rev and then suddenly releasing it.
When done "properly", meaning: just lift the right foot from the brake and fully apply the throttle, you get a 3.7 sec time from 0-62 mph. Which is still very very impressive because it even beats the Carrera GT by a fraction of a second. So please, don't expect to hit 3.2 seconds from 0-60 mph in real life but more something around 3.5 seconds.
I know this sounds funny, 3.2 or 3.5...who gives a crap but I just wanted to lower your expectations a little bit.

Regarding the (rumored) limited top speed: we're looking into it. It sounds strange but I think this rumor is true. And I may be able to find out why the Turbo has been limited to 310 kph. It could be a temporary limitation only or maybe a limitation which could be removed by request, I'll keep you informed.

Even Porsche admitted that this (brake-torquing) is one of the factors (and the method) contributing to the performance advantage of the tip over the manual. So, supposedly, this is taken into account in the 3.7 time.

I'm pretty sure that that limitation (amongst others ) could easily be removed by request.

    Re: Motor Trend Test

What the article neglects to mention is whether the test was done on a down slope.

    Re: Motor Trend Test

Fantastic performance. The new electromechanical clutch pack is a very interesting piece of hardware.Who developed and who makes it?

The one thing many people never think about is the one thing that Porsche does better than all other carmakers, get the power to the ground. Sounds simple, but it isnt.

What bothers me is the 120.5 mph trap speed. Is it really a mistake on the part of the reviewer or is the car slower up top?

    Re: Motor Trend Test

what really counts is the time achieved on a given distance. In this hypothetical example -- Let say a porsche turbo take 10 sec for the quarter miles and a daewoo 1.3l (what a car) also takes 10 second for the 1/4 mile it tell us that they are reaching the same top speed at the end of 1/4 mile because speed is a function of time. The number they mentioned could be wrong. But again timing is sufficient to tell how fast is A car and it is a very fast one. If one compare 1/4 time of different cars it will give a precise idea of what the car is capable of in terms of speed and power. So again if 2 cars make the same time for a quarter mile for example you can bet they reach the distance at same speed.

Not really. You could set the gears in a way, that would allow the car to reach 100 mph REALLY fast, totally destroying the other car up to that speed, but at the end of the 1/4 their times would be the same, but with a trap speed difference of 10 mph or even more.
This was a well known fact with the old Mitsubishi 3000GT cars. AWD, heavy, but were lightningly fast in the quarter out of the box. 13-second 1/4, but the trap speed was never higher than 100 mph (usually around 98). A comparable 996 Carrera achieved the same time at 110 mph.
To me, rolling acceleration is much more important than fast starts.

    Re: Motor Trend Test

I forgot about the gearing, never been really good in math...
I do agree that rolling acceleration is not my favorite. I prefer a lot more torque.
