Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

    Some highlights

    1. Tip is faster than manual becuae of improvements made to the tip's hydraulics allowing for brake torquing on takeoff, letting the turbos spool up and deliver full boost pressure immediately.

    2. Tip is faster in passing because gearing in the Tip is such that the turbos maintain full boost pressure throughout the rev range rather than dropping off slightly at shift points.

3.The 997 TT at the the Ring time with the optional sport tires and Porsche Traction Management activated was 7 min. 42 sec.

4.The overboost function raises the turbo pressure almost 3psi and is available for 10-sec. burst.

    5. The rear split wing is 23% larger than the 996TT and the underfloor cover measures 97% larger than the 996 which gives it a virtual flat underbody.

    6. The997TT Cab will be out at the end of the year.

    To quote the writer;

".....The turbo as King of the road. While not an official title...the Turbo has retained its status in the face of all comers. Viper? Too Vulgar. Ferrari? Too prissy. Corvette? Too blue collar. Lamborgini? Too, well, irrelevant. Or so believe the faithful.

The also had a good article on the GT3 and claim there is a 997 Targa in the works.

    Nick, Where's the punch line?

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

The punchline is, I could be a writer at Autoweek just reading Rennteam.

On the other hand, no amount of Rennteam reading would make Nick buy a 997TT, but a single Autoweek article just might.

Cut Nick some slack. From his recent posts, I suspect he's "coming around," who knows, he might just even have a deposit down at his local Porsche dealer for a 997TT....

I edited the thread indicating the Ring time with sport tires was 7.42 a hair better than the Z06.

The 997TT is a coupe and an ugly one. Both factors prevent me from buying one. In all honesty, I cannot imagine a bigger waste of money. Its performance is fodder for the magazines but in real life driving it is like buying a tractor to pull your son or daughters' tricycle.

The car is nothing more than a macho purchase.

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

Well i guess that's that then.

... and you know this how???....nick, really.... you're priceless-- but lately it sounds like you've traded in your MontBlanc for a crayon.
..Don't think you've been the same since your recent smackdown over on Rennlist ....punchdrunk, staggering- swinging halfassedly in any direction...caricature of yourself. (sniff) oh the humanity.. sad thing to witness, really.

Will TT best F430 in every performance category?.... beats F430 7:55 'Ring by 6 sec with std tyres, 13 sec on opt. sport tyres, at half the price..not too shabby imho.

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

A sopposed to a "prissy" purchase...

I guess everyone has their opinion... Im sure if money was no object Id take a 430 over a turbo... but since it is I'll take the turbo

    Easy to say for you:

I can buy a F430 spider for $190K ans sell it two years later for $220K

    or

I can get a 997TT for $130K and sell it for 100 two years later.

Mmmmm, let's see what I would do...

PTM is not user-adjustable. They must've meant the Sport button that comes with Sport Chrono...

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

    What happened on Rennlist?

I believe most agreed that the CGT should have had PSM. The issue was whether any kind of safety devices should be mandated. I indicated they should and some thought otherwise. I would not expect anyone to agree with me on a high performance sport car site.

BTW let me explain my comment regarding a macho purchase. If you want street performance the 997 gives you plenty. If you want something more on the edge the 997S gives that to you. If you want track performance the GT3 gives it to you.

The 997TT is an over the top performance useless sport car. You are paying another $70,000 to have the Turbo script on the PLASTIC back. Save yourself money, go out and buy a 997 without the designation and place a turbo script on it. No one would know the difference unless you race it on the street.

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

Nick I just received the new Car and Driver issue and I'm going to read up on that beauty you own. I like Porsche better than Ferrari, but I look forward to the day I can buy the Fcar drive it for a year and still turn a profit. Plus the F430 sound is out of this world.

Nick - macho, but much better than a feminine purchase eh?

Take a 997 C4S, add the standard options on the turbo (which most people order anyway), and you are only $25K from the turbo price ($122K - $87K - $10K), a bargain in my book.

Just for reference, in the F world, $25K just gets you the F1 transmission and ceramic brakes...

Only in America. The 430 depreciates quite nicely in Europe, as it should. It's equivalent to Porsche in exclusivity, regardless of how many there are. Besides, you can use these cars much more in Europe than you can in the US.

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

Regarding the macho purchase... isn't any sportscar which isn't driven on the racetrack a macho purchase?

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

How about a scan of the article, I want to read it...And I'm sure I'm not the only one in the forum
    thanks in advance

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

...and what about the 997TT buyer who "badge-deletes" the turbo insignia by choice??

oh well said damian!! Nick is just poopy because "prissy" hurts... because it fits him so well!!!

face it Nickle Bunny -- the TT destroys the 430, except on looks -- they're BOTH ugly as sin.

i only ordered the TT becuase it's so environmental AW says i get 21.6 mpg

You're such such an eco sensitive earth mother , Watt. That's why you own a Z06, which gets a real world 30 mpg at freeway speeds , right ? ( Let's ignore the 9 mpg Cayenne Turbo ,he,he )

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

really depends how you drive these things...very easy to dip in the single digits if you like gears 1-3 and dont want to bother with 6 (especially for the z06)

Re: Latest issue of Autoweek sings the praise of the 997TT

only partially joking about the mpg:

    - i'm getting my 450H today: 0-60 in 5.2 and 28 mpg
    - Z got 22mpg on freeway at 90 mph
    - CT is sold some months ago... i think they are depreciating rather rapidly in USA right now!!!
