They have really pushed the envelope with this GT3...wow...I wonder what will happen long term to the 991.1GT3 prices as it is 'stuck' in between 997GT3 RS (3.8/4.0) and this new beast + 'only' PDK and early engine failures...hmmmmm

throt:No point in going to 9k though, only for the squeal.......
Why do you say that? Shifting at 9k means you are at a higher rev range in the next gear with a stronger push...
Since it has identical gearing as 911R, it will pull better through the gears than the R. Maybe this is why no LWFW

Hmmm, just listened to that the whole way through and cant help thinking that the sound track seems false and doesn't tie up with what the car is doing.
In particular the bit at the end where the car is on the roads, not the track - the gear changes don't seem to tie in with flinches in the chassis or even a logical place or reason to change gear at that time.

Ziggy:RC, all - So is the 911.2 GT3 RS a sure thing now or is it still up in the air?
Yepp But will not be easy to get your hands on...... (harder to get than a GT2 RS for sure). From what I heard today it will be 4,2l, 550 hp, but RC's information says max 530hp. I think that RC has better sources than me, so....
Realese ? Geneva 2018???
I will go to Heckenheim in may and drive the cup car and with some luck get some more reliable information then

There's a better sound clip of the new GT3 on the "Engine Test Stand" in the official microsite...

Great find! Now that is much better.

This is what Porsche does best! Didn't think there was much life left in the Porsche R&D departments after the launch of the debilitating Boxster/Cayman twins with the emasculated turbo boxer four cylinder motor. That development would surely demoralize anyone.

Rumors are getting stronger...
One of our sources says the car comes for sure but probably after the GT2 RS.
Our sources with Porsche Motorsport are limited, so...

The GT3 RS...if it comes, like the GT3, will only be limited by production capacity.
There will be a limited model but this won't be the GT3 RS.
Middle of this year? The GT3 will be available at dealers middle of this year, so how could the GT3 RS?

Why should they do differently then last time? I'm thinking about the GT2RS before the 991.2 GT3RS?
Maybe there will be a 991.1 GT2RS and a 991.2 GT2RS?
If they follow the recipe from the 991 GTx
991.1 GT3
991.1 GT3RS
991.2 GT3
991.2 GT3 RS
991.2 GT2 RS
991.2 GT3 RS 991 HALO
Where does the 991 GT2 fit in - maybe not
There is going to be only one GT2 RS. Production could be limited but at the rumored price tag (around 230k base price, don't have a clue if this is with or without 19% German VAT), it will be limited by the price I assume.
Porsche will try to "milk" the GT cow as much as possible until the 992 shows up, so a lot is possible.

LP997:i think 991.2 GT3 RS and GT2 RS... thats all and before the end of the year. Porsche introduces/presentation the "992" quickly in 2018
The 992 was initially planned for 2019, the 992 Turbo for 2020.
There were rumors for a 992 2018 release but so far, I don't know...
Personally, I do not think the GT3 RS, if it comes, will be introduced this year.

FWIW:
https://www.stuttcars.com/porsche-models/911/992/
The 911 Hybrid will come in the end of 2018. The 911 Electric might follow in 2020. All the 4-door Porsches will become electric and hybrid, versions with just an internal combustion engine (ICE) will disappear for them. A few 2-door ICE Porsches will remain. The 4-cylinder 911, the 912, might make its comeback after more than 40 years (might also become hybrid).
Stuttcars speculation on Porsche 911 line-up in 2020
Model | Engine | CO2 | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
912 | 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo | ~150 g/km | Engine from 718 |
911 Carrera (e-hybrid) | electric + 6-cylinder turbo | ~100 g/km | |
911 Carrera E | electric | 0 g/km | 3 second acceleration |
911 Turbo | 3-litre 6-cylinder turbo | ~200 g/km | ~600 hp |
911 GT | 3-litre 6-cylinder turbo | ~200 g/km | Lightweight RWD track day car |
The ones who have driven Tesla Model S, know, that electric acceleration makes you smile as much as you have used to in your current 911 when flooring it. People tell the acceleration feeling in a Tesla is like in a 911 Turbo. If you don't agree, it means you haven't floored a Tesla Model S. The 992 Hybrid and the 992 Electric will naturally be quite heavy compared to the 992 GT, but 991 Targas and Turbos have shown that heavy weight hasn't stopped selling these cars. If you are not going to the race track - which 90% of the Porsche owners don't - you never focus on the weight of the car. And for going to the track there will always be a dedicated 911.
The top end 911s will not have more than 3-litre engines, but 600 hp will be taken out from them. The normally aspirated track day cars disappear meaning there will be one car instead of GT3 and GT2, and, hopefully with a more appropriate name as these days are long gone when GT2 standed for a racing class.
The 992-generation 911 will be launched in 2018. As Europe only makes 20% of Porsche sales, the 2020 EU rules probably will not affect 100% the models sold in USA, China and other markets.

From my source SURE no GT3 RS Mk2 this year, next year i don't know...but for my taste will be too late with the 992 coming.
Really i think i will stay with the my current RS till a 992 RS will come.

This article is just speculation based on...
No 992 4-cyl. Period.
Also, Europe makes close to 30% of Porsche sales, not 20%.
The EU emissions laws cannot be ignored because this is part of development. Porsche cannot produce/develop models just for the US/Asia markets. Also, the emissions laws in the US, especially California, are not much different from the EU. Actually, California has even stricter rules and even stricter ones planned and it is doubtful that Trump will change that.

From what I heard, GT2 RS realese in Frankfurt 2017 and the .2 GT3 RS in Geneva 2018. But as stated, still nothing is confirmed, so
But I am 99,9 % sure that the .2 GT3 RS will come (the production is according to my sources already scheduled, but they did not want to tell me the exact time....) and it will be released after the GT2 RS

Porsche seems to make a big deal out of the secrecy about a new 991.2 GT3 RS, probably because they want to sell the GT3 first.

Porsche is smart to offer RS with pdk only - this means they'll have no problem selling out the GT3 (and RS)...
