Now that the steel brake have 6 piston front calipers the calipers are as big as the PCCB's. That's actually the first question I had for the rep yesterday. He said the front & rear calipers on the steel brake setup & the PCCB's are the same size. I'm still uncertain about whether I will order PCCB's or not. I probably will, love them on my CS.

btw: If anyone's interested in my 997 S cabriolet I will be putting up for sale shortly. The car is perfect, probably better than new because it's already had the proper break-in and has 3M armour profesionally installed.

why get PCCBs if the standard brakes on a 997TT is the same size???

Lots of reasons.
First off the calipers are the same size but the front rotors on the PCCB's are larger.
The main reason is of course performance. After long periods of hard use the PCCB's wont fade like the steel set-up. They're bullit proof.
For me another huge reason is that the PCCB's are so clean. the Carbon Ceramic's on my CS leave almost zero brake dust. The calipers stay looking clean so do the rotors and the rims. With my 997 the rims get dirty even before the car needs to be washed. And then after a wash of the steel rotors they dump dirty water back into the rims. For most people not really a big deal, for OCD folks like myself a real pain in the arse. Even if there wasn't a performance advantage, just not having to clean the rims like I have to now everytime would be worth the price of the PCCBs imo. The only thing I'm not sure of is - Will the new steel brakes on the Turbo be as difficult as the steel rotors on the 997 S ? Wish I knew.

I thought the standard brakes were the same size as the 996GT2's, 350 mm front and 330 mm rear, while the 997TT PCCB fronts were 380 mm (which was actually also available as an upgrade for the 6-piston brakes on the 996GT2 and even the 996TT, retrofitted with them - the steel variety, of course).

The front PCCB's rotors are larger. I was referring to the calipers. According to the rep the calipers are the same size now.

Looking at both front calipers back to back I will tell you they definately look the same, except the color of course.

Ahhh yes. Forgot a huge advanatge of the PCCB's -un sprung WEIGHT.
According to the rep.s yesterday about 47lbs of un-sprung weight = better handling.

Close to 50lbs less in un sprung weight is a lot.

One thing I'll say and FREAK you'll appreciate this. - If Porsche offers color crests for the wheels, pass. The new wheels with their dual finish, mono chrome look fits the black & silver crests very nicely. Gold crests will look gawdy & very out of place with these wheels. I haven't looked at the order guide yet, are they even offering gold crests for the wheel caps ? Hope not.

Difficult? What do you mean?

After I wash my 997 I have to clean the wheels a second time because they dump dirty brake rotor water back into the inside of the wheels. I
Ive found ways to make cleaning easier but it's still a pain. Other guys have mentioned it here too so I feel a little better that I'm not crazy. Also on my 996 Turbo there was none of the same thing. Someone said it has to do with the softer brake pads on the 997.

btw: Guys - Found the best way to blow the water off instead of a leaf blower. It works as both a vacuum & a blower. Has different sized attachments to blow the air at certain parts like the brake rotors. All you do is reverse the hose from top or bottom. The vacuum is unbelievably strong.

I don't have the F430 yet. I'm about 2 months or so away from getting my order in. Before I order it I'm going to post my option specs and ask for suggestions. Love the 599 but I'm not a Ferrari GT type of guy.

Yeah, I think that would be a better move for you imo. If you didn't already have a newly modified Turbo S then a new Turbo would be the way to go but have fun with your car for another 2 yrs then you'll be really ready for a change.

I heard the part about the tip being faster up to a certain mph in a straight line according to Porsche. IMO we might see from real world tests the manual will be faster in some cases. I also think the manual will be faster around the track. Even if I'm wrong I wouldn't buy the tip. 99% of all my driving time is NOT full throttle from a stop light. Matter of fact most of my pleasure when driving my 997 S CAB now comes from the gas, clutch. stick. Whether it be taking corners in the right gear or the perfect shift , etc., etc. You could go your whole 997 Turbo ownership and never need the stop light advantage of the tip vs. manual. And if you ever do need that tenth of a second wouldn't you feel a little silly rolling up to the guy you just beat in a drag race by a bumper when he sees you're driving a tip ? Dun no, I would.......... Porsche has one of the best if not THE BEST manuals around in the 997, it's classic. For my tastes I wouldn't substitute it for a tip.
So when do you expect your car ?

Stradale, My dealer next allocation will be released in May and I am up next in line. I saw 28 people on wait list for TT and if porsche gives them 1-2 car for each allocation, some folks will not see their TT for a while. Accroding to my sale guy some dealers are charging $10K over MSRP. I thought that was not allowed by Porsche but he says they can. My order will go through in May for Sept build. I will give them the option list next week just in case I am not around. The damn color decision is always the toughest. I will have the car most likely late October, early november. I kinda like the wait. It builds excitement

Yea buddy, same problem here with the break "juice" that seeps down into the mid-inside wheel. It was driving me nuts but then again, what can you do? As long as im not the only frustrated SOB.

Sounds good Silver. Since you went w/ the red last time and like silver I'd go silver this time. I'm going with the Artic again. Love it so much. The wait is okay as long as you already have one toy to drive in the meantime otherwise it can be tough. Be good and keep us updated.

Order PCCB's next time is the only thing I can think of.
