    First Time on Track

It is never too late to try something for the first time: I went to track my 997.1C4 this week-end. Circuit de Bresse in France.
Oh that was a lot of fun. The weather was absolutely horrible except few moments during the morning.
I had my almost own worn winters (Pirelli Sottozero) on the car and when they get warm, they are very slippery...
I was the only driver with a 'GT" all the other had striped-out-tuned little FWD cars (Renault Clio cup, Seat Leon, Peugeot 106) or tuned Subarus with slicks or semi-slicks...Those guys are REALLY fast. I could only keep up when it was pouring down as my tires got cooler...
The 'car crowd' I met there was super cool (have to confess, 80% came from Switzerland - as well all know, we don't have a proper track Smiley) and it was a lot of fun...but I see how this can lead to a dangerous money wasting path (I came home and started looking at upgraded disc rotors kits, semi-slicks wheel sets etc....and then 997GT3RS ads...not good...)

I can't wait to try this again...But I need to be better equipped and prepared - this was a last minute decision (Even bough the helmet on the way ! Smiley)

    Re: First Time on Track

    Your rims look great kiss

Nice you had this first experience. It gives a whole new perspective on the car when one can track it .

You don't need to change your whole car for the moment . Bresse is not the best track for a Carrera , too tight . It is nice to try there, but very hard on the brakes and tires . Other tracks will be much better ( Dijon, Castellet , the italian tracks, Spa, and the best : The Ring . )

I would never go with winter tires on a track  . That ruins it all   At first some PSS will be good enough . And then you can try some cups . But don't worry, one is never satisfied . When you are on Cups, you want slicks indecision It just never ends . So just learning to be fast with what you have is already a big challenge .

Maybe you can just put some Pagid yellow pads, that will make a good difference in braking .

Maybe go to one of the open days when there is the Porsche cup events . Or any open pit lane with Freddy bart, Sport promotion, or the best, the Scuderia Hanseat course at the Ring

    Re: First Time on Track

Thanks :-) Those are not the ones transformed by the guys you referred me to, I bought them like this (bargain nobody likes the lobsters, I find them awesome in black!)

For winters, it was last minute and anyway, given the weather, on the way back I was happy not to be on PSS - there were some hairy moments already on the highway just before Geneva...You have seen the weather lately - MAD!!!

Thanks for the tips, definitely need to try again..! For sure, I love my car even more now...You can go to the opera in a suit, drive mad on a snow in the mountain, go to the track, daily drive to the office...You have to love 911s....

    Re: First Time on Track

That's exactly what I said when I started tracking my 997.2.

It's a slippery slope: you start with pagids, dedicated tyres maybe steel brake lines and you'll end up with a Donkervoort in the garage. kiss

    Enjoy the car!

    Re: First Time on Track

Congrats! It really does open up a new angle on the car - shows you just how fast and capable they really are (and how you can't use the true potential on the street).

btw - the lobsters are also the lightest OE wheel option for 997 kiss

I didn't know that they were the lightest, good to know. Anyway, they work for me in black, and black wheels/silver car make it look classy.

Very cool Jeannot, agree with all the points Gnil made, those would already make a very useful difference.

Unfortunately silver metallic is the heaviest color Smiley

Congrats on your track experience. As Dave wrote, it does open up a new angle on the car.
