    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

For me it's perfect as I only track race cars and not road cars anymore which makes my RS kind of redundant. Now hopefully my PTS request goes through and I'm a happy man (and need to get rid of that chrome window surroundings)

BTW, due to the lack of fixed rear wing top speed is 316km/h.

My P source wrote to me that around 85% of manual GT3 is expected to be ordered as Touring.

Why would it be slower due to lack of fixed rear wing? The regular GT3 does 319km/h... Smiley

Maybe the cumulative effect of the reduction in air-ram from intakes?

This car is now intended for spirited road driving and not really for the track .

Because of the missing rear wing? Smiley

I don´t like the "Chrome" windows, the car from the underground parking had black rubber around the windows.

May be, you will have the choice...

    What about the rear seats???

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

No rear seats. It is basically "unlimited" 991.2R(aka 991.2 GT3 Touring Package).

Walter has expressed a preference for Manual in every case that it is available.

Ask him about PDK in the 991 Turbo S... Smiley Or 918 for that matter...

He loves manual in the GT models and his older 911s... (he has a collection of various Porsche), incl. the Carrera GT.

I can't believe you guys are debating the transmission preferences of Walter R.  Drive what you like best, at least now you have a choice - we won't even have transmissions in the not too distant future.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Last night. Just for fun, I was driving the Turbo and decided to give it a dose of lead foot. I did not abuse the clutch off the line but in sport mode nailed the throttle as soon as the clutch was engaged 100%. In first the Turbo requires an almost instant shift to second. At exactly redline I pulled off the perfect, lighting fast, one two shift without loosing any boost and the car instantly hit seventy. That one shift was sooooo perfect and satisfying. I don't think I could ever do I that well again but it's great knowing I have a manual and can keep trying to better perfection. Reminded me what driving is all about. For me.

Is that confirmed? Sorry I've been away from "car scene" for a few months and this car is very exciting for me! But I really do want rear seats. It has always been my dream to have a GT3 with rear seats. When I was younger my GT3 was my daily driver, and I would love to be able to do that again. Not going to happen unless it has rear seats so I can pick the kids up.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

It was a logical consequence that we will see a 991.2 R or whatever you will call it. Lots of my friends which own a 991R are very upset that Porsche launches this car. I might be sarcastic but I think those greedy bastards should be happy with what they have. They can be happy owning a special limited car which might stay stable in price. Obviously many of them hoped to own that half a million Euro 911 which will raise even to higher value. But hey - you bought a car for 230k, so better be happy if you don't loose a cent of that, you don't have to earn with it.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I was really hoping for some rear seats! For those of us that live in big cities, there is not an unlimited amount of parking space, so would be great if the car can also be more practical, and NA trumps Turbo power....

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Touring edition is a very nice car...Now have to see if I can get an allocation for one.

RC - The pictures we saw today of the touring edition shows a manual transmission. Based upon those pictures, I assume manual is available.

How about less air-ram effect than GT3, more weight than 911R, or shorter gearing in 6th?  Smiley

Has the same amount of ram-air and gearing as the 911R and at least as much power (if not detuned) but it's slower.  It has to be an electronic speed limiter, imo (either legitimately for safety or to let the R have its superior specs). Slight weight difference adds 0.1 sec to 100kph, but shouldn't affect Vmax without electronic interference...

Aside from the weight difference, I hear the GT3 Touring has better aero performance than 911R, providing more downforce at Vmax... Smiley

From Gurney flap on retractable spoiler?  That would help with downforce, but not make a significant difference in drag Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Porsche learnt a lot doing the 911R. As I said, it was a beta test car. Everything they learn on the 911R is now being applied to the Touring.

Porsche have said the .2 GT3 front bumper create a bit more downforce than the .1 GT3, and the Touring car has a little Gurney flap which isn't present on the 911R.  So this car will have a bit more downforce than the 911R to make it a bit more stable.

The 911R gets quite light at the top end of  German Autobahn speed.

But thank god for this car,  I can finally drive the 911R again.
