    Should I stick with the new GT3 or wait for RS?

    Currently have the GT3 on order but am starting to like the looks of RS - even more focused

    the RS is in my book only "net" 10K more as the buckets have to be standard if the car only comes as a clubsport.

    Problem is I dont want an exclusive track car. I want to use it also on the road, etc.

    Any thoughts

    Get a "standard" GT3... the car is hardcore enough, unless you wanna do some VERY serious trackwork...

    I think it's too early to tell, since we don't know all the details. RS is always the better car for resale...

    and a GT3 is always the better car for normal road driving... which he says is important... But your right Grant, its a bit early

    GT3 if you plan on using it for "normal" driving.

    He lives in Germany where "normal" driving is 300kph and he said he would use it on the track too

    I think plenty of people would like a sportscar that weighs less than 3,200 lbs (used to be the weight of a full-size BMW 5-series sedan)

    It depends on what amount of track work you do and at what level of expertise. It also depends on what you are willing to handle in terms of ride on the street.

    Unless you are a very good driver, there will not be a whole lot of difference between a GT3 and an RS on the track. Like Gilles Villeneuve said many years ago "drive the car as fast as the car will go." If you can't drive a GT3 as fast as it will go and still be able to personally go faster, there is little reason to buy the RS.

    In terms of Street driving, it depends on how comfortable you want to be. I've driven friends 996 GT3's on the street and found then quite comfortable. They complained about the harsh ride, I thought it felt like driving a cadillac compaired to my Porsche...

    If you want a track car that you can drive to and from the track, the RS is, I think, a smarter investment. Otherwise stay with the GT3.

    Then why not buy a Mazda MX-5? Few of us can drive those as fast as they can go on a racetrack...

    The RS is rumored to also have PASM, so I don't think it will necessarily be any less comfortable as a road car.

    I don't know, until the car is holding you back from going faster, I see little reason to get a faster car (this is only for track work). Granted a more skilled driver may be able to make the MX-5 go faster just through sheer skill at driving the poor thing at 11/10ths, but if say you drive a car around a track at a 2 minute a lap pace, and someone else drives it at a 1:50 minute pace, you really don't need a faster car you need to become a better and faster driver...

    I guess that's mostly just years as a DE instructor trying to talk someone out of buying a faster car to go faster...

    Then again, if I had the money, I wouldn't think twice about buying the RS instead of the regular GT3 so...

    I agree - I've seen people get passed by Mazda MX-5's in expensive Ferraris at the track MANY times. But, if someone wants an expensive sportcar, they can afford it, and they enjoy it, who am I to argue?

    I think people who buy the expensive car for their ego alone and don't drive it too well will be in for a reality check when they get to a trackday.

    Then again, I have no problem with someone buying a Ferrari or GT3RS as their first track car and learning to drive it well either - it's just a bit more difficult and steep learning curve (but no more than a regular GT3). Everyone gets to choose his/her own path, but most people don't make it through without a few scratches on the ego or the car

    Yes, and you'll get that back (and probably more) when you sell it. But I thought the difference was $20k (CGT seats not available in USA)

    MX-5 does not apply to the argument. The GT3 and RS have the same power figures, pretty similar components albeit the RS has better structure, weight/power etc etc...

    So when you compare a GT3 to an RS, you are comparing one model to another where most specs are comperable, but the RS offers a boost more than the regular.

    Therefore, when considering the RS, I think its an accurate assesment to derive its use as being a push more than the GT3.

    Thusly, a comperable driver who can't push a GT3 to its edge will probably perform comperably in the RS?

    It's true that the laptimes may be measured in tenths of a second, but if it is truly lighter by a substantial margin, that has the effect of making the car FEEL much more agile and can be more fun to drive, even when you haven't approached the limits...

    I agree. Weight would be my biggest reason for upgrading if I were to get one

    thanks for all the input. I will stay with the GT3 as it will keep me "entertained" for a few years
