Think the R's light flywheel will be option on GT3?  Usually this is reserved for RS, but since RS is PDK now, maybe?

    Good thinking!

Wonder if they change something more than the flywheel since it is rather expensive.

Single-mass flywheel is in fact cheaper than a dual-mass flywheel. It's just not fitted to other 911s due to poor torsional damping characteristics, not due to cost reasons.

Andreas Preuninger mentioned the single-mass flywheel option includes a heavy duty clutch...

    Smiley

Well, a stiffer clutch diaphragm spring would also not need to cost significantly more than a the standard one. It would be used in conjunction with a lighter flywheel to compensate for the abuse that a clutch is more inclined to be subjected to in a car more likely to be driven on the track.
As I wrote above, the heavier dual-mass flywheel is used in the "bread-and-butter" models to eliminate the gearbox chatter resulting from torsional vibration in the drive train at idle and when rolling at low speed and no load.

Yes, I think when you get light flywheel, it includes "reinforced clutch" (not sure exactly what they mean by that, but I guess stronger for track use?)

Higher clamping pressure to reduce the tendency to of the clutch to slip under heavy use. Overcoming the higher clamping pressure calls for higher clutch pedal forces.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Indeed, who knows what clutch the show car had - even if it's a production-spec one. It could have been a lighter one as part of a dual-mass setup. It was light, though - similar to a manual Cayman.

Mule of 991.2 GT3. Same engine as on 911 R. Mule is PDK-S. It will be faster on the track and in straight line then 991.1 GT3 RS.

Why faster on track than RS with less aero and presumably no less weight?  Better suspension?

Further fine tuned suspension. Weight more or less the same as on 991.1 GT3. New engine combined with PDK-S is match made in heaven. Hint, marginally slower in top speed then 911R. But, top speed is in 7th gear. Further hint, new Cups and Sport Maxxs even better on the road and on the track.

This part is no different than current RS, right?  Engine/gearbox improved over RS?

Different final ratio. Also, even more "integrated", "faster" and with additional programms.

I know current GT3 and RS have different final ratios (RS lower to compensate for 21" wheels and slightly lower redline of RS).  Does new GT3 use the old RS final drive or a 3rd ratio?

Any more news about potential manual gearbox version?

Completely new engine from the GT3R race car, not from the current GT3/GT3RS. As I said before, Gen 2.5 engine.

Well at least the next GT3/RS won't have to worry about motorsport pedigree from day 1.

    Heard the same thing.

Btw, yes, manual will or should be an option. But, again hard to understand from several points of view since manual version will be slower both in straight line and on the track. Also, even Porsche engineering knows that apparently most of that "pure feel" claim is coming from manual gear changing.  That is as highly subjective as possible. Objective fact is that 991.2 GT3 is born to be with PDK-S.

Ok, to not be fried by "purists" I will admit that Porsche will satisfy them as well as "progressonists" like myself...

Nice! kiss I could imagine that one, with PDK-S, if I grow out of the GT4.

If the 991.2 is definately getting a new engine (unlike the temporary rectified 991.1 engine that continues to break down) this will be a nice and powerful uppercut landed to the chin for greedy investors.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

What does those red arrows point at? Identical air outlets? That 991.2 seem to sport a 991.1 GT3 rear anyway. I bet we will soon see a more camouflaged one with different taillights and wing.

It will have direct fuel injection, and a completely new oiling system. Being a NA engine it will remains a peaky engine that loves to rev.

Power output will improves is all I can say.

One could say the current GT3 is the prototype, the current GT3RS is the production model, the GT3R is an improvement of the GT3RS in racer trim and the next GT3 will be the end product of that.

Current GT3/RS is also already DFI and I thought the RS (and 2016 version of GT3) has already the improved oiling?  Power over 500hp would be interesting (and unexpected to leap-frog the previous R and RS).

Yeah, I would consider the PDK-S on the GT3 if I could afford to keep both GT3 and GT4, otherwise very tough.
