Since Ferrari has waiting lists for the model who would have manual gearbox, makes sense not to offer it anymore... Same with steel brakes, why bother...

And I assure you Porsche has no trouble selling GT cars without contradicting the entire concept by creating a Targa or Cab from one.  That's the reason you can't even spec a sunroof on one...

This board might not be representative but it seems anyone who wanted a GT car got one... "Like new" ones sale for barely a premium anyway... I seriously doubt that except for the R (someone said they were not all sold yet BTW) Porsche limits the production.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

I agree with SciFrog, I really don't see many posts by people who wanted one but didn't get one.

This I guess have variances depending on geography. Where I live approx 1/3 of the people who had a deposit got the RS. The rest got a refund. For the GT4 the numbers are supposedly even worse.

    KresoF1:

I truly hope that 991.2 GT3 will be PDK only.

Otherwise manual will be a lot slower both track times and acceleration wise.

On manual pretty long overall gearing and mechanical LSD only.

According to current rumors, manual will be optional and maybe even a wing delete (unless Porsche decides they use this for a different product). PDK will be available for sure though!

The 991.2 GT3 will not be limited by a fixed production number but by production limitations. So basically everyone who wants one will get one but of course only if Porsche can make enough cars and if dealers are willing to get the necessary allocations.

What made them change their minds about manual that was supposed not work very well with so called DFI engine and all the electronic complications that only worked with pdk in 2014 Smiley

I still have doubts about the engines reliability that rolled out in early models with MA175 - E, F, G in 2016. Are they using the owners as test rats to perfect the 991.2 GT3 engine ? Or is it that their R&D team are on a long vacation to cut cost Smiley

If my memory serves me correctly it was the other way round... the PDK only worked with the DFI engines, not with the old Mezger engine.

With all due respect, we have figured out that you are rather unhappy with Porsche right now. The launch of the 991 GT3 was rather ill-fated but I do think that they solved the problem in a very professional manner. What lead to these problems might be difficult to comprehend from the outside.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Ok... Here is pretty credible info from my source who is currently in Geneva.

It in 98% mirrors info provided here by Whoopsy.

991.2 GT3 will be available as manual and PDK. Manual version will be basically 911R mechanical wise with GT3 tuned suspension and new 991.2 GT3 look. PDK version will be same engine combined with PDK and e-diff.

Accelerstion wise manual will be as fast as 911R while PDK will be at least as fast as 991.1 GT3 RS with 320km/h top speed.

Price.... Belive it or not idea is the same price for both manual and PDK. Manual will be positioned as purists version and PDK as non-purists version. PDK will be faster, both acceleration and track time wise.

When... After the production of 991.1 GT3 RS and 911R ends. So, intro could be this year, but deliveries definitely in first half of 2017.

Btw, 991.2 GTS will be definitely introduced in late summer 2016.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

Great info! I'm really interested in the 991.2 GT3 and it sound like a promising package.

Any more info on 991.2 GTS? I would assume same 3.0 turbo engine as in Carreras S but tuned to 450hp. And then all the GTS bits and pieces added. Carmine Red color, Alcantara/leather interior pack, black headlights/back lights, spyder wheels, PSE, sport chrono, etc. More or less the same GTS treatment that we have seen before. Maybe also sportier PSM/PASM and lowered by 10mm?

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

SPASM and SPASM/PDCC are already available for 991.2 coupe models.

But, yes, new Sport Design facia will be included.

What I was trying to say is, back in 2014 interview with the manual it wasn't an easy job for them to caliberate it with rws, ptv etc.... but Porsche's marketing is used to spouting the usual bullsh*t and skip the old fashioned conventional gearbox and head straight for the PDK (hence: 911 R shouldn't be driven on a track Smiley) PDK is supposed to be robust with 0% errors in any condition at any time.

That's not a firm and accurate answer, I've heard something not satisfying regarding some affected 991.1 PDK gearboxes that need to be replaced on GT3 + RS (MY16)  Smiley

I also heard that the diffusor from the 911 R may be used for the new GTS. Estimated power figure was even 460 hp today but I would rather think 450.

With some luck, we could see PDK as well but last info was manual only. Apparently they want people who prefer PDK to upgrade to the GT3. Smiley Smiley (just a personal wild guess...)

I am still working on that wing-less option rumor because I heard it from two different sources but one claims it will be an entirely different car, which kind of doesn't make sense since I doubt that Porsche would offend (limited edition) 911 R buyers. Oh boy...so many rumors lately, my head Smiley...

In AP interview he said they will make the equivalent of the R as a regular model, i.e. GT3 without wing...

I had a look under the R at the diffusor, and it looks extremely basic. Nothing super high-tech there.

    Re: 991.2 GT3 Thread Closed

But AP may be referring more to the 6 speed manual with mechanical rear LSD setup and a not necesarily include the rear wing delete. I think that would make it to close to the 991R and with a new engine and fascia at that. it would leave the limited edition 991R without much going for it.

What high tech did you expect? They did a well balanced aerodynamic setup, wasn't easy as far as I heard. The 911 R still has a deployable rear wing, doesn't it? Smiley

The diffusor looks like a DIY job. Bent aluminum with studs.
