Wonderbar:I will be at the press debut tomorrow and will post impressions and pics. I know at least one person who has already put down a deposit on this fantastic machine. Not to everyone's taste, but certainly a fabulous automotive creation.
Wonderbar,
what have your impressions been of that car? I personally find it to be quite astonishing, far more iconic than the Veyron initially was apart from its ridiculous performance and technical numbers. I also believe that the car is far more competent than the predecessor.
I heard from a friend who knows a friend who knows a friend... that there are quite a lot of pre-orders signed at the private viewings that were held for selected customers already. Considering the public reception I believe there will be additional orders from people that have not bought a Bugatti before.

Carlos from Spain:Very original and with good taste. Love the interior for such a car, very appropiate. The car is class.
I do not agree with the price tag though.

DaveGordon:Does anyone know any background on why the Galibier got canned?
Apparently, "There are many contradictory reports as to the reasoning for the axing of the Galibier."

I suspect that one of them was the fear that it would not be much less unprofitable than the Veyron.
fritz
Bugatti should build a SUV with 1000 hp. Such a car would even be profitable because they could use the current Q7 platform as a basis. If people are willing to pay over 230k for the Bentley, I am pretty sure there would be enough customers for a 500k Bugatti Mamba.

Am I the only one who thinks that the Chiron is just a facelift of the Veyron? Same engine, same chassis and it weights 2 tons! I've always been a big fan of the Veyron but in 2016 it's a dinosaur. Of course it will be profitable. The R&D and retooling efforts are minimal.
The Veyron used to be an engineering masterpiece even if it wasn't an elegant concept. Originally priced at EUR 1M it even was reasonable for what it offered. The Chiron is an example of extreme excess and irrationality for the bored, "easy-made" billionaires.

I think it is more than a facelift. Other brands are not doing better. Check the 997 towards the 991 Porsche - evolution is going smaller steps.
Until now they never made money out of the Veyron sale (thats what VW claims). The original price of 1M was pretty steep those days but reading that the new one costs almost 3 times as much makes you wonder what this should be? I completely agree - this development of prices and availability of Ueber-Luxury articles is just show casing how insane some percentage of the population went.
While more and more people are hardly being able to afford a new VW Passat, there is a huge demand for those super luxury cars. Same with any other luxury article - watches, hand bags, etc. Apropos hand-bags - 10 years ago I bought my wife hand bags for 500 to 1200 Euro. Today serious bags are around 3000 to 5000,- €. And yes - Hermes went from 3000 (10 years ago) to 15000.... some limited editions even north of it. Luxury never dies and the more expensive and harder to afford the more wanted it is.

Well,
how do you know that the Chiron is only a facelift and uses the same chassis and technology?
SciFrog:Cartier raises prices about 10% a year...
Classic Hermes bags are too cheap, you can't buy one...
Quick question btw, does anyone know if those air slats on the CF door trim are plastic/metal/carbon-fiber (The one visible on the top left corner, right by the window)?
Knowing Bugatti and their obsessive attention to details, you would have to kill them before convincing them to apply any plastics (not to mention the press conference said "0" plastics on the car, inside and out), but wasn't sure so I just wanted to check...Thx
