    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

People always want something they cannot have. Human nature.

Asking price always doesn't equal to the transaction price.

Heck, I actually have a standing listing to sell my 918 for 15 mil. It is certainly not what the car is worth right now in the market place. I never expect it to go remotely that high, but to me personally, if someone is stupid enough to pay that much, I might entertain the offer.

2900km, so 1800 miles or so.

I practically haven't touch it since last I got the RS last August. Think I put on perhaps 200km the last 6 months. The RS is also at 2900km right now.

Do you have to do anything special to keep charge on the drive batteries when not driven?

Who the heck is going to pay ~1M € for a 991 R? One have to be really stupid/rich to pay this amount of money for this car. In this price range (and a few hundreds less) you've got cars way more special than the R.

I mean, even a GT3 RS 4.0 which is relatively modern and almost produced 400 cars less has an asking price of ~400k €.

Prices will certainly change over time, in one or another direction. The more special models Porsche puts on the market, the more likely the chance that prices for "special" older models actually drop. I think.

Just imagine what could happen with 997 GT2 RS prices if Porsche decides to offer a limited edition 700+ hp 991 GT2 RS...

If people have the money to collect cars, why not? Other than that, I would stay out of this "speculation" game because it wouldn't be the first bubble we see.

One reason I never played this game because I do not have the money and I cannot risk buying a car and then, after 6 months, the value drops. Not very likely right now, I know but I prefer different kind of risks, sorry.

but we all know that we change time and Porsche as other manufacturers must adapt to  increasingly drastic constraints of (CO2 , security ...) . Although they are always faster , they are less and less fun to drive.

so I think the old and special models have a very bright future

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I don't know about that... I would prefer a 991 GT3 RS over any previous RS model when it comes to driving fun.

If you are looking for a driving challenge of course, the previous models are more "fun".

Personally, I actually would love to have a 993 RS but this car is outside my financial possibilities.

Depends what you're looking for in a car... In the past, I liked challenges but (fun) priorities have shifted with age. I enjoy driving my GT500 (manual) but it gets tiresome fast. One reason I barely use this car, mostly on weekends or when I want to impress a few buddies but sometimes I get scared so much that I actually regret getting this car. Smiley

I understand but I do not see the point of paying the price Porsche if I buy a product that compares more to a AUDI except for the ego . If I can no longer enjoy my cars with a strong character , I prefer to buy a car from a premium manufacturer but not a manufacturer like Ferrari or Posche . Fuck the blazon

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I don't know about other countries but in Germany, Porsche is actually a premium manufacturer and not necessarily in the same (ego ) league with Ferrari. No other car in lower price ranges (like Mercedes, BMW or Audi) offers the same drive feel, so there is no alternative I'm afraid. This has nothing to do with ego, even if many Porsche customers, I know that, actually shop for the brand and not for the experience. No current BMW, Audi or Mercedes (not even the GT) can replace a Porsche 911, one reason Porsche is so successful.

I personally think that the M4 and 991.2 porsche are interchangeable. ;)

M4, standard carrera are similar sauce. i'd prefer the M2 over both.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I haven't driven the 991.2 Carrera, but there is no way I would be comparing a M4 with a 991.1 Carrera. I've had two of the current gen M3 and one M4 as daily drivers so I know these cars VERY well. They are capable and practical cars which is why I buy them, very quick too, but it doesn't give you the experience of a 911.

Now having said that, for me the Carrera is in a no man's land. It's not quick enough to be exotic, but not practical enough to be a good daily driver. That's why over the years I've preferred to buy GTS, GT3s and GT4. To me even the mid engine siblings are more interesting which is why I've had a few Boxsters, Caymans and Spyders too.

Now I know that you haven't driven both...because this isn't true. The M4 feels much heavier than the 991.2 and without starting a detailed discussion, I suggest you throw a look at the track times of both. The 991.2 CS drives circles around a M4 (even the older 991.1 Carrera S is on the Nordschleife 8 seconds faster than the M4, the new 991.2 CS is a couple of seconds faster than the CS 991.1).

My guess is: The 991.2 CS is not slower than the M4 GTS on the Nordschleife, maybe even a tiny bit faster. If this doesn't impress you, I don't know. Smiley

Then, the M4 sounds like crap from the outside, even with sport exhaust but the 991.2 Carrera S is quite acceptable (with PSE only though!). The steering and drive feel of the 991.2 is worlds ahead of the M4, typical 911 (in it's latest generation). So no, in my opinion you cannot compare both. At all!

Price-wise however, the M4 is clearly the winner. Not that this really matters though... Smiley
