ALDO:KresoF1:Hmm... Do you like idea of manual gearbox that much?
not at all
Or to put it little bit differently is your 991 GT3 RS not involving enough?
are you joking
Also, do not forget that 991.2 GT3 is coming for sure...
Yes, but it will be still something different to this 911 R.
I think the 911 R is more worth keeping then 911 GT3 RS and much more then any GT3.
Your last sentence is most probably the truth. My local importer got 3 991 GT3 RS allocation and sold them.
No 991 R allocation at all for Croatia.
So, from investment point of view 991 R do make a lot of sense.
My advice? If you can get 991 R and keep 991 GT3 RS you have two best drivers cars.
WAY:Grant:One the Porsche USA site it says the car has only 368 hp (not even 468) - error I hope...
368kw
Oh, thanks - actually more than 500hp (500.48)

The R does not sport the air intakes from the RS, yet the engine specification seem identical. Could someone elaborate on this? Are the intakes only for show on the RS?

I bought one, but not sure if it wil get much seat time, maybe it a couple times a year if that.
I just simply don't see it being a better car than the GT3RS
Having to shift with the shifter is distracting from the pleasure of driving, at least for myself.
its like going back to the old days where one has to adjust the carburetor severe now and then just so one can start the engine. I know some people who loved to do that but it's not my thing.
bluelines:The R does not sport the air intakes from the RS, yet the engine specification seem identical. Could someone elaborate on this? Are the intakes only for show on the RS?
The RS engine makes 500hp by itself already. The extra intake on the fender is meant to act like a natural supercharger when at speed, so the RS actually has more than 500hp once at speed.

Maybe higher compression rate: 13,2 (R) from 12,9 (RS) and perhaps they
have "jackat kolven"
Porker:RC:Porker:Received the dealer's pricelist, you can order a single mass flywheel.
Could be a really enjoyable drivers car this...
I would order it like it is...just with a single mass flywheel (who cares about additional noise? ) and with black painted rims. No A/C or audio...pure. This is what the R is all about. A real weekend
I would think twice about not speccing A/C, I have that spec on my RS and it's not at all enjoyable in summertime. I'm all for lightness, but the next car will have A/C.
AC delete is great ...here in the SF Bay Area where I live , it is never humid or much over 75 all summer so I never use it even middle of day . I just set to Memory " AC off " and temp " LO " and use the Pacific Ocean's sea breeze as my natural AC ! I actually have to remind myself to turn it on for a couple minutes every so often to keep its condensor seals and bearings from rotting ! It has been that way for the three decades I have owned and driven Porsches as they have always been a weekend car , so winter fogging in rain is a non issue , as none of them has ever been drivrn in rain either !

RC:Wings are never iconic...but I like them more than the "iconic" ducktail.
Yes, the Carrera wing is not a beauty but at least I do not carry it around in the city.
Whenever I'm in the US, basically every Porsche I see (minus Cayenne/Macan), has the spoiler/wing raised, even when parked. We had two Panamera Turbo at our beach hotel in Miami and both had the rear wing deployed. Ridiculous.
if you want a beautiful car get a ferrari or a lambo, a 911 does not qualify anyway, wing or not.
bluelines:I think Porsche has finally got it now, there is a big demand for more "simple" cars like the GT4 and the R. Expect more to come.
I also bet this is a new line and we will see a new range in this idea coming in the near future .
I also have been slightly thinking if I should sell my RS and get the R ( If I can ) . But I am not convinced . For a collector it would make sense, but for my usage , I am not sure . On open roads, one can not exploit the fun potential of the R anyway, and it is not really made to go on the track .

Same as the side scoop intakes for our GT4. You wouldn't want the engine rated at 385 hp at maximum (at 183 mph), because then it would have less power in gears 1st through 5th.
Porsche motors are rated on the engine dyno (0 mph) and any ram-air effect just adds a little more at very high road speeds...

I know they say this car is not for the track, but I think this is BS (just better on the road as well as great on the track). I bet it's very capable and more fun on the track than a GT3 (even if its laptime might be slightly slower). They purposely don't mention a Nurburgring time (which is smart), but I bet it is not far from a 991 GT3 time (70kg lighter, same PCCB brakes, Cup2 tires, suspension, little less downforce, more power & torque, more slippery aero and top speed on Dottinger Hohe, lighter flywheel, AWS, slightly worse gearing and upshift time, mechanical LSD).
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the R is actually faster at the Ring than GT3 (but definitely slower than RS). Will be interesting to see SuperTest - I bet the Hockenheim time is pretty quick (better power to weight ratio than even the RS).

You are probably wright . And probably it is faster then the current GT3 and even on par with the RS

Whoopsy:They felt that the GT3 wheels is the most beautiful wheels right now and hence they use it on the R.
I think they felt that they are using GT3 suspension and large brakes (need 20" wheels to clear PCCB) and so it is easier and cheaper to use the existing parts which bolt right to the existing hubs. It's a shame. Smaller PCCB from the Carrera or Cayman GTS under narrower 18" 5-lug Magnesium Fuchs wheels would have made the handling even more playful on the road and better looking.

I'm at the opposite end of you (I mean driving ), I found manual shifting adds to my driving pleasure.
I'm still not used to the paddle shift of PDK in my GTS, especially during turns.
I'm looking forward to a 6 speed manual NA engine 991.2 GT3RS.

Think you're getting greedy with that one RS will be fastest spec possible. But, GT3 (non-RS) looks possible according to this article:

The R will be the slowest car from Motorsports.
The mission statement wasn't about speed, it was about driving involvement, especially for those that likes to row their own gears. it will make all sorts of wonderful sounds to make you 'feel' fast when it is not.
It is a car for the senses, not for speed freaks.
Single mass flywheel, and even less insulation than the RS means it will get a lot more noises into the cabin.
P.S. Tim, RS cars will stay PDK only for the foreseeable future, only regular GT3 will gets manual as it is not an RS

Slower than GT4? It is certainly the outright fastest NA 911 (top speed over 200 mph)
