In stop-and-go traffic, you don’t even need to use the brake. Shift into low and it’s capable of one-pedal driving. Lift your foot off the accelerator and it stops. Touch the pedal again and you’re off.

One pedal driving. Ok? Smiley

Personally, I'd still want a second pedal for the brakes, as I'd want a car to stop much faster if it were a question of avoiding a collision than if I just wanted to stop for a red light. Smiley

On the Macan self braking is not bad. Tried on an brand new Escalade and I was terrified so turned it off.

I quite like half a G of regenerative braking. Can you do under 1 minute 40 seconds at Mid-Ohio?

The one pedal thing is a bit weird to get used to, but I really like it, fitting for any EV by nature. It's comfortable in city driving too.

Anyone else excited about the model 3 announcement? It may not be a performance car, but it might be a big part of the future of the automobile. Either way, I can hardly wait to see it.

I think Tesla also has a big hedge against being overrun by the big car companies due to their arrangements for a supply of batteries.

Oh yes, it's long overdue!!!!! I can't wait. People are sleeping in front of dealers already in order to put their deposits down. I think this car is 2 years too late, so it better be amazing and keep all competitions at bay for a couple of years such that Tesla can sell 100,000s of them. If this thing isn't truly amazing, Telsa may be more or less dead in the water.

I'm hoping for a small sexy sedan with amazing lines. It is said to be benchmark streamlined..

So, apparently, the Model S has been suffering suspension failures and Tesla has been forcing the owners to sign NDAs, which may actually forbid them to report the problem to the NHTSA, in order to get it fixed.

Tesla Motors, the maverick electric-car maker, is under scrutiny from federal regulators over suspension failures attributed to its biggest-selling model — along with reports that it had asked owners not to disclose the problem.

The nation’s top auto safety regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said on Thursday that at least some Tesla customers who experienced suspension failures with Model S luxury cars were asked to sign confidentiality agreements about the issue.

“The agency immediately informed Tesla that any language implying that consumers should not contact the agency regarding safety concerns is unacceptable, and N.H.T.S.A. expects Tesla to eliminate any such language,” said Bryan Thomas, an agency spokesman. “Tesla representatives told N.H.T.S.A. that it was not their intention to dissuade consumers from contacting the agency.”

The regulator added that the agreements that Tesla required were “troublesome.”

Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.

If true, this could explain the fabricated hype for the Model 3, a car that has yet to finish the basic design phase. Tesla needed a very positive story about its future to obfuscate the suspension failures and alleged coverup.

Seems to have been true for the small number of owners to whom Tesla covered some extra repair costs beyond warranty. And, today they have kissed and made up with NHTSA- likely by revising their NDA to explicitly state that the non-disclosure is not intended to prevent notifying the regulator. Some lawyers interviewed stated these NDAs are non-enforceable in any event. But IMO all these paranoid tendencies in legal form reflect directly on Musk's personality traits - he is equally likely to sink the company as make it great, a human roll of dice.

Reminds me of the "Audi Victims Network" from decades gone by. All fake or grossly mistaken claims of "unintended acceleration". NHSTA finally ruled that they were all "pedal miss-application" events. Damn plaintiffs bar at work.
