    Area 27 track

instead of sprinkling the odd photo here and there, I am going to start a thread just for the updates.

    Screen Shot 2016-02-24 at 8.07.53 AM.png

Ground view of the exit of turn 14. The right side road is the pit entrance road.

This giant rock was unearthed during construction, it is estimated to be around 100,000lbs. That's a D9 pushing it for size comparison. We are gonna use it as a sign for the entrance.

    very cool ! What's the concept ? Part-ownership or a Company ?

    Re: Area 27 track

Track will be run as a private club, there are a number of founding members who has stakes, then the members have entry fees and memberships are transferable.

Can the main straight double as a runway for the Gulfstream?  If we are going to visit from Down Under we will need somewhere to park the jet...

Looks brilliant. Look forwards to seeing more photos.

    Re: Area 27 track

    Another day, another update.

Here is a arial shot of the whole track, to give a sense of size when comparing to the earlier photos. It's basically all marked out and just waiting to be graded. Don't ask me why but our construction crew had decided to build the track backwards from turn 16 back.

    12593711_10153260529076400_4029546942924917202_o.jpg

The track runs counter clockwise in the photo, the far side is the main straight, 1/2 mile, ~800m long. Slightly uphill. Followed by a sweeping left-hander that drops down, sort of like Pouhon but without the double apex.

This photo can't quite show the elevation changes, the 'U' turn at the bottom of the photo is actually on a hill, so the one takes the righthand turn 5 and go up the hill, if my memory serves me right the height is 20m, then the track flattens around turn 6 and come straight back down the hill towards another right hander turn 7. Sort of like turn 1 at COTA.

Initially we had planned for a banked turn 6, but not anymore, not gonna have our own little Karussell.

Not sure 800m is enough for your jet Smiley

Closet regional airport is about 30mins away in Penticton with a 1.83km runway.

But we do have onsite helicopter landing pads Smiley

Aussie sense of humour.  Still working on the jet

How far from the Burrowing Owl Vineyard are you there? Ever since a trip to Whistler a few years ago the Okanagan Valley has been on my to visit list.

Turn 4 (far left of photo - guess it is Turn 4) : Whilst they are there, can the boys move the mountain back a few metres to give you a bit more run off area? Shouldn't be too hard given the scale of what you have already done!

See 1st pic from 1st post for planned runoff for turn 4.

We might do the grip paint a la Paul Ricard and COTA on the run off areas.

Funny you mentioned Burrowing Owl Vineyard, we are just up the road, the Black Sage Road (i.e. vineyard row) from them, about 10km North.

    Less than what you expect.

7 digits but less than 8 digits. In CAD$ no less so even cheaper when converted to US$

Phase one, which consists of just the track and some primary needs for track is around 5mil.

Yeah, every second one is for sale. I'd have it as a retirement home, more so having the scenery over production value..

    Re: Area 27 track

At the track doing a site visit today, too some pictures at ground level to show the elevation changes.

This one is showing turn 3 right-hander in the background, loops back slightly up the high to turn 4 and 5, the straight on the front is between turn 7 and 8.

    IMG_7451.JPG

This is standing on the straight between turn 13 and 14 looking back, that's turn 6 turning up the hill onto turn 7 which loops behind the trees and the knoll and then back down the hill. Turn 7 is banked 18 degrees, just like the banking on Daytona Speedway. Turn 6 hasn't been graded yet, we will drop it another 6 feet down, so the climb up the hill will be 45 ft, basically 5 stories.

    IMG_7452.JPG

This one is standing on the straight between turn 13 and 14 looking at the last 2 corners , turn 15 and 16 which loops back on to the pit straight start/finish

    IMG_7450.JPG

This last pic is end of the pit straight heading into turn 1 and then the main straight. The corner is cambered, especially on the inside, so one can either take a late apex to extend the main straight, or take the inside and sling shot out.

    1457933348225IMG_7456.JPG

Not a very good day weather wise, raining and cold, so some section of the track is muddy and full of water, the SUVs we drove can't make it around, so only a selection of corners shown.
