Yes, the original R was a race homologation model to comply with minimum production rules. I think we all knew the "new" R is not a race homologation model, but we all dreamt of the features and specifications such a homologation model would imply for the 991.
The 991 R is more Cayman R than 1967 911 R in this sense

Have you seen the car? Just wait until the presentation. If you look carefully on already leaked (mule) photos, you can see it.
