    There are some spy pictures out there with a 911 having pepita (herringbone like pattern) inserts on the bucket seats.  Same steering wheel as GT4 (i.e. no paddles).

    Wonder if this is the 911R.

    it has the RS roof and bonnet  .  This the car looks way too plain and actually odd .  Maybe with the final livery it will look better . It should of have it' own rims .

    Very mixed feelings for me at the moment .... 

    I think it will be an in-between . Not a real '' special'' model, but not an exclusive bin's part .

    People like "limited" editions, no matter if cars, watches or whatsoever. Industry loves to make money, so they will offer what the customer demands. Result: everybody happy, except for some purists maybe (negligible minor group).

    The manual gearbox is the single feature which so far really sticks out. The R is not going to be special because there is no rear wing and has Exclusive Dept seat inlays.

    I would have paid up to 180k for a GT3 without rear wing and with rear seats. Actually, before I got my 991 Turbo S, I asked if it is doable (GT3 without rear wing and with rear seats) but all my sources said impossible. Not even Exclusive department would pick up such a project because it was one of the "blacklisted" ones (meaning: already "prohibited" by the upper management). 

    So what is so special about a Cayman with Carrera S engine and a rear wing? Smiley Much less special than a 911 R I can tell you for sure. Smiley While the Cayman got most tech from a 911 Carrera road car, the 911 R gets most tech from a GT car. See?!  Smiley

Otherwise it's doesn't make much sense save for a very few and select group that want a manual GT3 not for track and willing to pay the overprice of a limited edition, those and flippers too.

    Now, if they made this car with PDK and rear seats and full production (not limited) and no expensive extra weight reduction for only 50Kg savings or whatever over a normal GT3, ie a normal pricetag similar to a GT3, then that would be a different story. Call it a 991GTS"R" and it would become my favorite model in the whole lineup.

    Well, it had to happen. How could they devalue the R suffix more than with that Cayman R they once offered?! Smiley

    Porsche should offer a "regular" 911 R for 180k flat and without limitation, with PDK and with rear seats. That would be an amazing thing to do. The special ed with manual, a bit less weight and those special stickers and whatnot could be sold for 200k, limited to 500 cars. They could even call it 911 RS. Wouldn't really hurt them and everyone would be happy.

    As I wrote earlier, there is nothing special about the GT4, except for it being the first GT car on the Cayman platform. The R does not appear more special though, a GT3 without a wing and with seat inlays. It looks exactly like a GT3 without a wing with RS front hood and roof from the parts bin. The manual sets it apart from the other 991 GT cars. The specific choice of engine and gearbox will IMHO determine if it is Rare or Ripoff.
