Re: It's $14.95 installed and you can have both....

...a ipod connector is on of my biggst wishes....!!!

I wait until 2004.....I hope it so much , that the waiting is near over..

Re: It's $14.95 installed and you can have both....

I think this is bona fide rumor. No official word from my dealership or their regional parts rep. Niether have heard anything about this, which makes it sound like an aftermarket kit, not "factory."

Re: It's $14.95 installed and you can have both....

This is coming from one of the largest Porsche dealerships on the East Coast (by vehicle allocation) -- my service manager is not one to create rumors.

If you want to talk to him yourself, PM me, I'll give you his direct line.

Re: It's $14.95 installed and you can have both....

I don't think that either factory contacts or dealers not knowing is actually grounds for dismissing this...After all Porsche is the company that made a worldwide announcement about the exhaust tip recall, yet for several days after (and the official press release was on their website) neither 1-800 Porsche Customer Service,or the dealer network seemed to know anything about it !!

Just PMed you. I'm in to call him. Unless you can provide part numbers?

Re: It's $14.95 installed and you can have both....

PMed you back -- I don't think he has a part # yet, but call him, you'll have the same information as I got....

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

According to my dealer, the iPod mount is a no-go for now. Here's what his email said:

"I just spoke with David who spoke with the representative for Porsche Parts North America. The are no plans for an ipod kit/part/adaptor for quite a while.Specifically, there are no plans for it. This is a reliable source ...David did tell me that there are aftermarket kits available for the 997 that you might want to look into.Believe me, if it was available, I'd make sure that you received it"

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

It's coming -- in fact if you read the rennlist link earlier in this thread (posted by jfraser), one of the engineers that worked on the adapter confirmed it's already made, just a matter of marketing releasing it.

I was told April, so I, a long with all of you, are sitting tight.

ah the age old struggle between the bean counters and the engineers.

I'm hoping it doesn't turn out to be that way, my service manager has earned my trust!! I check with him every week about this thing and he says the same thing all the time "It's coming this month, we are waiting on it, I will call you."

Of course, I don't let him do that, I call him...and as for the girl, PM me your e-mail address or e-mail me direct at ajcastaneda@mac.com and I'll send you some of her...some guys here have already asked about the beaut...and for you NY Metro people, she may come out on the trip with us this summer.

Re: I will believe this one when I see installed pictures !!!!

    AJ,
Can you find out if the Dension offering that was announced today is the product that your Service Manager was talking about

iPod - flash (nano) or hard disk based? (slightly OT)

I apoligize in advance since my post is slightly off-topic.

I am the happy owner of a 996C2 with the X74 (-30mm) sports suspension. I am going to install Dension Icelink in order to connect an iPod to my CDR22 unit.

I really would like to buy the iPod (video) with a 30GB hard disk drive, but how sensitive is the hard disk to shocks and vibrations? Will it be able to cope with my stiff suspension? Should I settle for an iPod nano which uses flash memory and thereby is not affected by shocks and vibrations?

    Thanks in advance,

    /fantasma

Re: I will believe this one when I see installed pictures !!!!

well , if anyone has any information on the interface to mp3 or ipod. factory or aftermarket that would be controled by the head unit I will be intersted. Thx

    June/July

    Check this out: http://support.dension.com/dension/icelinkgateway500.php

The page now says that the Denson unit will be avaiable from Porsche at the end of June.

A local (Austin) Denson dealer said that Denson told him he would have the unit at the end of April. However, I'd more rely on the site date of June which likely means July for us.

Hmm interesting...I will follow up with my SM on Monday to see if this is the unit he was talking about.

    Re: June/July

    New Information from Germany...

Last Week was a Car Hifi Show and there was also Dension -
The IceLink for Porsche Most will be come out at 15. June.

I hope that they not delay it again...

    UPDATE

Just spoke to my service manager today -- the unit they are expecting is NOT made by Dension. It is expected this month - and for PCM only. A another unit (this could possibly be the Dension one) is expected later on for non PCM (some 987 owners).

    Re: UPDATE

    Thanks for the info AJ.

    Keep us posted!

    IT HAS ARRIVED

Just spoke to my service manager today -

The adapter has arrived at the dealership! It is available for PCM cars only (987's with CDR-24: an adapter will follow later) as of now. It will cost, as stated earlier $300-500. They don't know how much to charge for it yet, but at that price, it isn't much - especially when compared to the CD changer.

Labor is minimal (less than an hour) - involves just removing the unit and connecting cabling. Because I have an appointment for my 987 windblocker coming up in the next few weeks, I will be able to take pictures of one of their first installations. They have not installed the adapter on a car yet.

I promise you all - I will have pictures of the installation once I get to my dealership to get service work done on my car.

    Great news!

For you doubting Thomases out there - PM me if you want to hear it from my service manager himself, he'll be happy to take your call.

    Re: IT HAS ARRIVED

Great news. Please take photos of the PCM so that we get an idea of menus and the ease of navigation through ones ipod.

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

do you have a part number?

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

He did not give that to me. Coming soon though, photos will follow, be assured.

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

    Awesome.. it is finally here!!!

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

    Great news !!!

    Thankx for sharing.

    Part number pleeeeaaaase ...

    Cheers
    Tom

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

Hello agian - and that is realy directly from porsche....in germany nobody knows everything about this....

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

Jfraser called my service manager yesterday at Manhattan Motorcars - he referred him to the dealer's audio installer - Technik 1 and the head guy there confirmed that the adapter my SM was talking about IS the DICE/Dension connector that was discussed earlier on this board. The time frame is 3 weeks according to him.

Of course this just confirms my original post. But I will have pictures once they do their first install!

    I don't care WHO makes it - I just WANT it !!

AJ - Thanks for bringing us this news and being a TEST CASE ! Take LOTS of pics and give us a review please !!

    John

Re: iPod Connector Porsche OEM Available APRIL 2006

    aj,

This sounds like fantastic news! What we need now is the detail about what equipment is needed, how it's all installed, what the cost is, how it operates (full manual control or playlists only) and definitely - we need pictures! Plus, we need your report on how good the sound quality is.

A lot of desperate people are depending on you!
