Not quite because Porsche didn't go for the "race track" design used by FCA for Dodge models.  That "race track" illuminated by LEDs is infuriating to be behind on country roads and rural Interstates because it is so bright and blinding.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Really like the Classic Wheels on that red Boxster! Maybe would have been even better in satin platinum. These wheels does not seem to be an option in the configurator yet though.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Grant, I also wonder too if an RS version of the GT4 would be pdk only based on APs stance that RS variants of the 911 line will only have pdk

Definitely a possibility.  If they make a manual GT3, I imagine the GT3 RS will be PDK also.

Finally had the chance to listen to the 718 Boxster S engine/exhaust sound. Oh boy, if you think the 991.2 Carrera S with PSE sounds bad (I do not think that but anyway...), the 718 Boxster S will move you to a completely different disappointment level. I truly hope Porsche knows what they are doing here because people won't be happy with it. Not sure if there will be some sort of sport exhaust along the way but that typical Boxster flat six sound is...gone. Completely. yes I like the new look though, the Boxster has matured, almost to perfection. This can be a good or bad thing but the car looks better than the previous model in my opinion. I like the 991.1 look better than the 991.2 though.

Well, one reason I switched my 991 Turbo S for the 991 C4 GTS Cab was the exhaust/engine sound. You cannot imagine how driving fun can be killed by the lack of sound. No stereo will help with that. Smiley

A sports car has to sound like a sports car irrespective of largely academic lap times. That's half the enjoyment, for me anyway. Porsche have certainly lost me as a repeat sports car customer. Smiley

I have yet to hear the 4 cylinder 981 but I am not surprised by your comments. Like DC, I bought a Boxster GTS because I wanted the flat 6 sound and a naturally aspirated power plant. I don't buy cars based on a ring times, that's more on paper bragging rights than real world as far as I'm concerned.

    Re: 718 Boxster

Luckily there is a massive used market with well sounding Porsches to choose from.

If people would do that, the GT3/GT3 RS would sell badly and the 991 Turbo and Turbo S would be bestsellers. The new 991 Turbo S outruns the GT3 RS on the track (well, at least for the first or second round... Smiley)...on street tires. So why don't more people, who never actually go to the track, choose a GT3 RS instead?

Make no mistake: Even with the C4 GTS Cab in my garage, I would have gone for a GT3 RS but I promised my wife that I would only have one Porsche sportscar at a time (daily driver or weekend toy) because I spent way too much money on cars in the past. Smiley Makes sense though.

Man that 718 sounds terrible! I don't mind a 718 base Cayman as a runabout, now that its got decent torque for around town use. But as a weekend sports car? I just can't do it when they are so many nice cars out there.

I guess this is actually the problem seems to face lately: Perfection is a good thing for a daily driver but a weekend toy car kind of has to be a bit "annoying" or imperfect because this is how it creates more emotions. I couldn't imagine a better daily driver than my former 991 Turbo S but for me, it was the weekend toy car. The GT500 is more fun but I sometimes miss the perfection and the much safer drive feel. With the GT500, I get sometimes scared at certain speeds or in certain curves. Smiley

Sounds like a 10 years old quote from a Ferrari forum SmileySmiley

Kidding aside, I fully agree with you. When engineering perfection can be measured by 0-200 and laptimes only. but not by smiles per mile for the man behind the steering wheel, it's not the right approach for a sportscar / toy. Maybe the decisionmakers should give more credit to what guys like W. Röhrl say rather than listening to the engineers and beancounters. And we all know what he said about the sound of the flat 4..

Having said that the sheer performance potential of the new Boxster generation is impressive. If I am not mistaken 'Ring laptime has been cut over the last decade by 40 sec. or so, which is a massive performance gain Smiley

It's kind of ironic, that now - when finally there is nothing to complain about anymore regarding the performance of the Boxster -  the spirit of the car may be lost via introducing the 4cyl turbo engines Smiley

    Indeed, very ironic. Smiley

As to the performance and emotions: I love my 991 C4 GTS Cab but with the power of my former Turbo S, this car would have been perfect. Porsche always seems to build a certain category of car for a certain category of customer but they don't seem to realize that there is another certain category of customer, like me and you, who want both: Maximum performance and emotions. Would it have killed them to offer the GTS models with the GT3 engine, maybe detuned to 450 hp? No. Would it have killed them to offer a Carrera (Carrera R or Carrera RS) model with the N/A engine of the GT3 or GT3 RS? No. I do not want a Turbo S because it sounds like crap. I do not want a GT3/GT3 RS because there is no convertible and I need the rear seats and AWD. So why not offer customers what they want? What could go wrong? They sell a Cayenne Diesel, a Panamera Diesel, there is nothing worse in my book. Time to rethink their (model) strategy and offer customers what they truly want, even if it may be only a small(er) percentage.
