At the price point hey mention it would be a slap in the face to put the 3.8l.

    Re: 911 R Thread Chiuso

The few times I had contact with Porsche personal, I had always been told 3.8L, 4.0L wasn't mentioned at all. But then again plans could change. Will know in 10 days or so.

Power rating of 500 hp is unlikely, I heard 470-480 hp.

Latest rumor was 4.0 l engine but the 3.8 l engine would work as well and would be cheaper to use. Smiley

I don't have any information about the gearbox, sorry but apparently manual is pretty much sure.

Yes, there will be very likely be a 991.2 GT3, no turbo and no 500 hp (490 hp was the latest I heard) and yes, this car could get manual optional and including AWS(!).

Thanks!  Is AWS All Wheel Steering or something else?

Not easy to imagine the positioning of the R 991 from the current 991 GT3 and the next which should also have a manual transmission . The product really better be very special

I spoke today with a guy who owns a racing team ( Cup ) and sells / buys GT.. Porsches .

He said : If you want to make money on a 991 RS you better sell it very fast and not be too greedy  ...... ( GT3.2 is coming )

According to Autocar the upcoming  facelifted 911 GTS will be NA engine, not turbo.  I would guess the next GT3 would be N/A as well.

Here is a link to the autocar article, last paragraph:

    Re: 911 R Thread Chiuso

hmmm, so, Autocar says: N/A for the GTS - really ? No way.... maybe they mixed up GTS and GT3, somehow...

No way for me too... and why? it's turbo on 991.2 and i think turbo on all models (Gt3 include)

Which would you rather have?  A left-over 4.0L RS dry sump 8,800rpm NA motor or a 3.0L turbo wet sump brand new motor?

I was not making a judgement on which engine I prefer, but a comment about Porsche's business plan. Smiley

Ok, but Porsche doesn't really have piles of engines sitting in a corner with the "just in time" production methods, right?

More in Autocar today on the 991R - interesting they say "It's expected that the 911 R will be a permanent addition to the 911 family, rather than being a limited-run special edition"

They must've not realized that it's coming in 11 days and it will be model year 2017 (50th anniversary)...

    Re: 911 R Thread Chiuso

Those GT3s that got a replacement engine will have the record updated to reflect the new serial numbers of the new engines.

Those returned engines would have gone through a tear down and rebuild, 'remanufactured' and given fresh serial numbers, with the old numbers retired. For all intents and purposes they will be 'new' engines with new serial numbers that could be match to any new cars, say the rumoured 911R indecision

    Everything matched! smiley
