I feel with you. The PDK on my 997 Carrera GTS Cab was one of the reasons I got rid of the car. Felt almost like an improved Tiptronic, not more, even when shifted manually. The PDK on my 991 Carrera 4 GTS Cab is a completely different story, manual shifting is actually fun with it. I just wish I had the new (very short) pedal shifter way of the 991.2 or GT3 RS but I am working on a retrofit solution (if possible).

Was the 1.Gen PDK that bad or are you reffering only to manual mode? I thought it was a huge success, and the press was fascinated as well. Smiley

Why is it a rip-off? Smiley The 997 Sport Classic was a rip-off and look at the prices now. I also consider the Club Coupes a bit of a rip-off and especially those UK special models.

The R is no rip-off in my opinion, especially if Porsche keeps the low production number of around 600 cars (not sure about that though, demand seems to go through the roof and Porsche would be stupid not to take that into consideration).

Your opinion seems biased because you love the 991R.

My GTS Club Coupe only cost a little over a GT3, and only 60 produced in the world.  That's 10 times rarer that this 911R. (Of course I'm biased too as I have two club coupes indecision)

To me, if 911R costs more than an RS, then it definitely is a rip off as I don't see anything special about it other than its name.

Sorry but for me the GTS club coupe is the just a normal GTS with some porsche exclusive option you can build a GTS club coupe replica easly. The r is more interesting because more rare parts ( carbon etc...) and the spirit of the original 1966 R...the GTS club coupe is just a 991 with more catalog option.

I agree you can build your own GTS club coupe easily.  But it will not be a real GTS club coupe as we know there are only 60 real ones.

What makes you think a 991R is hard to build?  All the parts are readily available or easy to make.  In fact, it is built mainly by "taking away" some parts from a GT3 or GT3RS.

If it is not called a "911R", then there really is nothing special about it at all.

The actual 991R car probably cost less than or equal to a GT3 to build.  Any extra money paid are for the word "911R" only.

Yeah, all postulations now, but that's what make this talk interesting.

If it costs more than RS, it is because it is called "911R",  limited production with good chance of appreciation in the future, and because it is 6 speed manual for fun driving.  On a pure performance basis, I do not think it can exceed the capability of an RS.  If they can produce manual in GT3 or RS, then this 911R will not even exist.

Yes, some claims that you wrote seems reasonable.  But, R is IMHO far cry from sportscar a la 991 GT3 or RS. It is more something like mixed bag of different parts wisely put together. I simply hate some things about R and the way Porsche marketing is explaining its merrits.

More when the car is officially out. It will for sure rise some eyebrows...

I'm disappointed that the 991.2 updated body panels are not on the R. Would have made it more exclusive with the new rear lights, new front DRL but with a N/A engine and all the other R specific details. Wonder if it will get the Sport switch on the steering wheel...

What did you expect? Of course they are using parts from the existing parts bin, this is the only way this car is actually profitable but still, a very nice and interesting offer from Porsche and I would get one instantly if I could afford it right now (which I cannot, unfortunately). The only think which will rise some eyebrows will be very likely the price tag Smiley but nobody really expects the R to be a pure track car. It isn't.

    Targa Tim,

The club coupé is special, but not that special . Many country have these '' exclusive'' models made . It is done by the Local importers .

Our club coupé , called Swiss limited edition, has been produced only at 14 pieces . Does it make it more exclusive  then the North American Club coupé ?

And I am also joining a photo to the Dutch Club coupé . Also special and unique color as all the other '' special '' models .

Your blue collection is great and special . But lets not get fooled by the '' speciality '' of it . I am still sure it bets better value then the others of course .
