On my company I have 8 Toyota Hilux service cars from 2007 to 2013 all bought new and the first units have made more than 350K km without any major problems while being heavily abused on sandy roads and in the mountains out of the road. Today, you enter in those pick up cabins and there´s very few rattles, it has an amazing solid feel, these are very well build cars, but DAMN they drive horrible, from the steering, to gearbox and suspension, it´s all vague and sterile so this test result doesn´t surprise me. I´ve also three Land Cruisers and they´re not as strong as I thought, all of them had gearbox and transfer case problems while Hilux didn´t had any which is weird, still, Land Cruisers were given a hard time on road. Just for the record I´ve also had a Mitsubishi L200 and while being a bit faster than the Hilux it is HALF strong regarding resistance and build quality, engine reliability is also much worse than Toyota.
There´s a reson for the fact on every 10 pictures you see from Africa, on half of those you see a Toyota on the back :) these cars last forever.

Hilux, Tacomas, Land Cruisers, and Land Cruiser Prados, are huge sellers here in DR because of their resilience. Those cars just won't break down no matter what you put them through. My dad has a LC Prado and is actually looking to upgrading to the new model because they quite simply never break down despite the bad roads, bad fuel quality, and harsh weather conditions.
