If "massive" weight reductions were economically and technically feasible they would already have been carried out on the GT models.

The RS is more than 100kg up on a base Carrera with manual, no? Smiley

The RS is 10 kg lighter than the base 991.2 Carrera with manual.

    So just do the math...

As far as I heard, the R will weight 1395 kg (the RS is 1420 kg, the Carrera base model 1430 kg).

All reliable information indicates a 13xx kg weight for the R but I heard that it is something like 1390-1395 kg and not less. At least this is a modern Porsche weighting less than 1400 kg. Smiley

That would be more than insulting, as the gearbox change alone should account for more than that much weight loss (30kg) from the RS.  Then you are losing the enormous 21" wheels, etc...

if weight reduction is due to AC deletion then that is totally cheating, as I can easily remove it myself.

any cars other than a full track car should have AC.

    -carbon panels.
    -massive weight reduction efforts

4.0L is still pure speculation on people hoping for the RS motor.

3.8L GT3 engine has always been the motor in question.

RC: Porsche would never call it 911 R if it weighed as much as 1390 kg... My 997 RS 4.0 weighs 1360 kg and it has to be lighter than that, even if it is a 991.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

If this limited edition "lightweight" 991 model does not weigh less than a GT4 (1340kg) then it can be written off as an Exlusive Department parts bin special. R for Rip-off indecision

Is there a written rule or something like that? Smiley Smiley

Porsche puts a very special and limited edition car on the market, it will sell very well, I have no doubt about it.

The lightweight stuff is a goodie to somehow justify the high price tag, I am pretty sure that people would buy this car even if it were "just" a GT3 without the rear wing.

Whoever hopes for a price tag below the RS, is delusional. Smiley

Why is it a rip-off? Smiley The 997 Sport Classic was a rip-off and look at the prices now. I also consider the Club Coupes a bit of a rip-off and especially those UK special models.

The R is no rip-off in my opinion, especially if Porsche keeps the low production number of around 600 cars (not sure about that though, demand seems to go through the roof and Porsche would be stupid not to take that into consideration).

Speedsters are around 300-400k EUR, at least these are the asking prices. I heard that they usually go for around 290-350k EUR (incl. 19% VAT), depending on mileage. To get one new without any mileage is basically impossible.

I feel with you. The PDK on my 997 Carrera GTS Cab was one of the reasons I got rid of the car. Felt almost like an improved Tiptronic, not more, even when shifted manually. The PDK on my 991 Carrera 4 GTS Cab is a completely different story, manual shifting is actually fun with it. I just wish I had the new (very short) pedal shifter way of the 991.2 or GT3 RS but I am working on a retrofit solution (if possible).

Buying race cars is not without a risk, there is no warranty of any kind.

Even if the car is fully operational and OK, how do you drive it on the road? Impossible to get a street certification for this car in Germany. As a fun track car only, maybe a bit too pricey.

As a collector car, maybe worth something in 20 years or so. Smiley
